saying in addition to scatter the former covenant of God, the one between Judah and between Israel; and it is clearly shown from the times of our Savior that all the worship according to the Law has been removed, having been abolished from that time until now. 130 Ps. O sword, awake against my shepherd, and against the man who is my citizen, says the Lord Almighty; smite the shepherd, and let the sheep be scattered; and I will turn my hand upon the shepherds. Since the evangelist, taking from here the saying, "Smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered," taught that it was fulfilled at the time of the saving Passion, when the disciples, having left him, were scattered; for this reason we too have noted this saying, which, as it requires much investigation, we will postpone for a suitable time. Ps. From the same. 28. And the Lord shall go forth, and shall fight against those nations, as a day of war; and the Lord my God will be present, and all the saints with him. And we have noted these things, supposing them to be said concerning the second coming of Christ. Ps. From the angel. 29. I have no pleasure in you, says the Lord Almighty, and I will not accept a sacrifice from your hands; For from the rising of the sun even to its setting my name has been glorified among the nations, and in every place incense is offered to my name, and a pure sacrifice; for my name is great among the nations, says the Lord Almighty; but you profane it. Just as his Word is named in the divine scriptures as the hand and 131 right hand and arm and power of the God of all, so he is also called the name of God. That this divine name, then, has been glorified among the nations from the rising of the sun and its setting, is manifest to everyone from those everywhere who are called by the name of Christ; who also in every place offer spiritual incense and the pure and bloodless and rational sacrifice through prayers to God, through the true high priest. And while these are worshiping in this manner, God says he will turn away from the bodily sacrifices of the former people. And indeed it is clear how after the coming of Christ the prophecy was fulfilled in both respects: both in the rejection of the former people, with the sacrifice and libation being taken away from them according to Daniel, and in the conversion of the nations to the God of all. From the same. 30. The covenant of life and peace was with him, and I gave it to him that he should fear me with fear, and that he should be in awe of my name. A law of truth was in his mouth, and injustice was not found on his lips; in peace, directing, he walked with me, and turned many from injustice. For a priest’s lips shall keep knowledge, and they will seek a law from his mouth, because he is an angel of the Lord Almighty. And supposing these things to be fitting for the testimonies concerning Christ, we have set them forth. For the covenant of life 132 and of peace was with him; and the spirit of fear, along with the others, rested upon him, according to what is said in Isaiah, "and the spirit of the fear of God shall fill him"; and this law of truth, and not the typical one, was in his mouth, and injustice was not found on his lips; for according to Isaiah, "he committed no sin, nor was deceit found in his lips"; and since he was with the paternal power, directing in peace he walked with him, bringing many who formerly did not know God to conversion; and from him, since he is high priest and guards the knowledge concerning all things, they have sought and will seek the divine law, those who care for knowledge concerning him; for he is the Angel of Great Counsel, ministering and proclaiming the Father's will to every creature.
