of his father by sea to Joppa, and from there on foot to Jerusalem. And to begin to build the temple of God, being thirteen years old, and for the aforementioned nations and the twelve tribes of the Jews to work and to provide for the sixteen myriads all necessary things, one tribe per month. And to lay the foundation of the temple of God, sixty cubits in length, sixty cubits in width, and the width of the structure and of the foundations ten cubits; for thus Nathan the prophet of God 9.34.5 commanded him. And to build with alternating courses of stone and bindings of cypress wood, fastening the two courses with bronze axes weighing a talent. And having built it thus, he paneled it inside with cedar and cypress wood, so that the stone structure was not visible; and to plate the temple inside by casting golden bricks of five cubits and to attach them by nailing them with silver nails, of a talent in weight, breast-shaped 9.34.6 in form, and four in number. And thus he plated it from the floor to the roof and to make the ceiling of golden coffers, and to make the roof of bronze from bronze tiles, having melted bronze and poured this out. And to make two bronze pillars and to plate them 9.34.7 with pure gold, a finger in thickness. And the pillars were of equal size to the temple, and the width of each column in circumference was ten cubits; and to set them up for the house, one on the right, and one on the left. And to make also ten golden lampstands, each weighing ten talents, taking as a model the one 9.34.8 placed by Moses in the tent of testimony; and to set them on either side of the sanctuary, some on the right, and some on the left. And he made seventy golden lamps, so that seven would be lit on each lampstand. And to build also the gates of the temple and to adorn them with gold and silver; and to 9.34.9 roof it with coffers of cedar and cypress. And to make also on the northern side of the temple a portico and to support it with forty-eight bronze pillars; and to construct also a bronze laver, twenty cubits in length and twenty cubits in width, and its height five cubits; and to make on it a rim at the base, projecting outward one cubit for the priests to wash both their feet and to wash their hands, stepping upon it; and to make also the bases of the laver, twelve cast and carved ones, and a man's height in height, and to set them at the rear 9.34.10 part under the laver, on the right of the altar. And to make also a bronze base, two cubits in height, near the laver, so that the king might stand upon it when he prays, so that he may be seen by the people of the Jews. And to build also the altar, twenty-five cubits by twenty cubits, and its height twelve 9.34.11 cubits. And to make also two bronze chain-like rings and to set them on devices that exceeded the temple in height by twenty cubits and to cast a shadow over the entire temple; and to hang on each net four hundred bronze bells weighing a talent; and to make the entire nets for the purpose of the bells making a sound and scaring away the birds, so that they might not sit on the temple nor nest on the coffers of the gates and porticoes and defile the temple with their droppings 9.34.12. And to surround also the city of Jerusalem with walls and towers 9.34.13 and moats; and to build also a palace for himself. And the palace was first called the temple of Solomon, but later, by corruption, the city was named Jerusalem from the temple, and by the Greeks it is aptly 9.34.14 called Hierosolyma. And having completed the temple and walled the city, he came to Shiloh and offered a sacrifice to God as a burnt offering of a thousand oxen. And taking the tent and the altar and the vessels, which 9.34.15 Moses made, he brought them to Jerusalem and placed them in the house. And the ark also and
