he is coming, says the Lord Almighty. And who will endure the day of his coming? or who will stand in his sight? because he enters like a refiner's fire, and like the soap of launderers; and he will sit refining and purifying as silver and gold. The things concerning the second coming of Christ are also prophesied through these words, when ... s sent forth from God and Father of all, he 133 Christ of God, who is now called the angel of the covenant, will look upon the way before the face of the father, that is, he will prepare and make ready the souls of men for the kingdom of the Father; when, after he has built the spiritual temple from rational and living stones, that is, the church, the Lord and God the Word himself will come with the angel of the covenant to the aforementioned temple; then, as if announcing his second coming, the Word says to the sinners, behold, the Lord Almighty is coming; and who will endure the day of his coming? or who will stand in his sight? and so on; which must be carefully attended to, being spoken by the Lord Almighty himself as if about another; and it must be asked of those of the circumcision, if they might have anything to say about the lord indicated here and the angel of the covenant with him, about whom the Lord Almighty says, behold, he is coming, and the rest; through which, according to us, the second coming of Christ is proclaimed; who, being the Word of God, having arrived, will enter into each soul, judging each one concerning the things done by him during his life, washing and refining like gold through fire, and purifying the ruling faculties of all. For the Father has given all judgment to the Son, according to the word that says also in the psalms, God, give your judgment to the king, and your righteousness to the king's son; to judge your people in righteousness, and your poor in judgment; where the king is proclaimed to be the divinity and he 134 God the Word himself; but the man whom he assumed, the son of the king. Of the same angel. 32. And the sun of righteousness will rise for those who fear my name, and healing in his wings. The sun of righteousness is the true light which enlightens every man coming into the world; who is said to rise only for those who fear the name of his Father; for to those who are not such he threatens to set, according to the saying, and the sun will set upon the prophets who lead my people astray, as it is said in one of the prophets. These things are from the twelve prophets; but since it is our intention to include the things from Isaiah in a separate writing because of their multitude, come let us turn and examine the things from the other great prophets. Ψ. From Jeremiah. 33. Lord, make known to me, and I will know; then I saw their deeds. I, like an innocent lamb led to be sacrificed, did not know; they devised a plot against me, saying, Come and let us put wood into his bread, and let us wipe him away from the land of the living, and may his name be remembered no more. Our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ, according to the prophecy in Isaiah, was led as a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb before its shearer is silent, and according to the one at hand, as 135 an innocent lamb led to be sacrificed, I did not know; and his passion on the cross can be indicated through the words, come and let us put wood into his bread and let us wipe him away from the land of the living; and may his name be remembered no more; which are spoken from the person of those who plotted against him. For if indeed his body was bread, as he himself teaches when saying to the disciples, take, eat, this is my body, and this was what was displayed upon the wood on the cross, it could reasonably be said of him, come and let us put wood into his bread; and if the things concerning this passage should also have a deeper contemplation, what has been said does not at all hinder that. Ψ. Of the same. 34. I have forsaken my house, I have left my inheritance, I have given the
