They declare that the Demiurge knew none of these things before the advent of the Savior. 22. There are some who say that he also brought forth Christ, his own son, but also * a psychic one, and that he had spoken concerning him through the prophets. And that this is the one who passed through Mary, just as water passes through a pipe, and that upon him at his baptism that Savior from the Pleroma, made from all, descended in the form of a dove; and that in him was also the spiritual seed from Achamoth. They assert, therefore, that our Lord was composed of these four, pre1.420serving the type of the archetypal and first tetrad: from the spiritual, which was from Achamoth, and from the psychic, which was from the Demiurge, and from the dispensation, which was constructed by ineffable art, and from the Savior, which was the dove that descended upon him. And that this one remained impassible—for it was not possible for him to suffer, being incomprehensible and invisible—and for this reason, when he was brought before Pilate, the spirit of Christ that had been placed in him was taken up. But they say that not even the seed from the Mother suffered; for it too was impassible, † being spiritual and invisible even to the Demiurge. What suffered, then, according to them, was the psychic Christ and the one constructed mysteriously from the dispensation, so that through him the Mother might show the type of the Christ above, that one who was extended upon the Cross and who gave Achamoth form according to substance; for they say all these things are types of those things. The souls which have possessed the seed of Achamoth, they say, have become better than the rest; for which reason also they have been loved more than the others by the Demiurge, though he did not know the cause, but supposed them to be such from himself. For this reason also, they say, he appointed them as prophets and priests and kings. And they explain that many things have been spoken by this seed through the prophets, since it is of a higher nature. They say that the Mother also spoke many things concerning the things above, but also through this one and through the souls that came from this one *. And so they divide the prophecies, willing that some things were spoken by the Mother, some by the seed, and some by the Demiurge. But also Jesus likewise, they say some things were spoken by the Savior, some by the Mother, and some by the Demiurge, as we will show as our account proceeds. But the Demiurge, since he was ignorant of the things above him, was moved by the things that were said, but despised them, at different times sup1.421posing a different cause, either the prophesying spirit, which itself has a certain motion of its own, or the man, or the admixture of worse things. and thus he continued in ignorance until the advent of the Savior; and when the Savior came, they say he learned all things from him and gladly came over to him with all his host, and that he is the centurion in the gospel, who says to the Savior, "For I too have soldiers and servants under my own authority, and whatever I command, they do." And that he will complete the economy according to the world until the proper time, especially for the sake of the care of the church and because of the knowledge of the prize prepared for him, that he will go to the place of the Mother. 23. And there exist three kinds of men: spiritual, earthy, psychic, as were Cain, Abel, Seth, so that they might show from these also the three natures, no longer individually but by kind. And that the earthy goes to corruption, and the psychic, if it chooses the better things, will rest in the place of the Middle; but if the worse, it too will go to like things. But the spiritual things, which Achamoth sows in, having been disciplined here in righteous souls from that time until now and nurtured, because they were sent forth as infants, later, having been deemed worthy of perfection, will be given as brides to the angels of the Savior
