11For my own sake I will do it for you, because my name is profaned, and I will not give my glory to another. For since the enemies think that they have overcome not only you but me also, and that through my weakness they have conquered you, I will free you from that bitter slavery, so that even those who do not know me may learn my power. 12Hear me, Jacob, and Israel whom I call; I am the first, and I am forever. For having said, 'I will not give my glory to another,' he fittingly added these things, teaching that he himself both punishes and saves. He himself brought Abraham out of the land of the Chaldeans, he himself delivered them to the Babylonians, he himself freed them from their dominion, he himself will also give the new covenant. 13And my hand laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand established the heaven. I will call them, and they will stand up together 14and all will be gathered together and will hear, who declared these things to them. And I am the creator of all and master, and it is very easy for me to call even inanimate creation and to make it stand before me. The Lord, loving you, has done his will upon Babylon, to take away the seed of the Chaldeans. Because of my affection for you, he says, I will bring utter destruction upon the Babylonians and I will uproot their power. 15I have spoken and I have called, I brought him and made his way prosperous. He says these things concerning Cyrus; for this man both destroyed the dominion of the Babylonians and freed the Jews from slavery. 16Draw near to me and hear these things; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning, nor in a |160 b| dark place of the earth; when it came to be, there was I. Since you disbelieved the gloomy prophecies, at least believe the glad prophecies. For not like the idols do I prophesy falsehoods in certain dark and inaccessible places, but I know these things clearly even before their outcome, as if present at the events themselves and observing each one. And now the Lord has sent me, and his Spirit. The prophet said this. Not from myself do I speak, he says, but having been sent forth by the God of all and by the all-holy Spirit. But here he clearly showed us another person besides the person of God, the person of the Spirit, for the refutation both of the Jews and of those who are sick with the error of Sabellius. For he said: 'The Lord has sent me, and his Spirit.' For since he often spoke about the one Godhead, now saying, 'I am the first, and I am forever,' and now, 'Before me there was no other god, and after me there will be none,' he also necessarily teaches the properties of the hypostases, sometimes of the Son and the Father, sometimes of the Father and the Holy Spirit. And concerning the Son and the Father he said: 'Because God is in you, and there is no god besides you,' but concerning the Father and the Spirit: 'The Lord has sent me, and his Spirit.' 17Thus says the Lord who has redeemed you, the Holy One of Israel; I am the Lord your God, I have shown you for your benefit to find my way, in which you shall walk. I did not allow you to wander, but I showed you the straight path. And through this he indicates the law. And he teaches this more clearly through what follows: 18And if you had listened to my commandments, your peace would have been like a river, and your righteousness like the waves of the sea. If you had lived according to my laws, you would not have tasted the calamities of war but would have enjoyed a peace imitating the streams of an ever-flowing river and never being interrupted. But living in peace and following my commands you would have acquired the wealth of righteousness, overflowing and comparable to the waves of the sea. But since the Jews were not willing to pay attention to these things, but cleaving to a carnal mind they considered having many children to be happiness, the prophetic word fittingly adds these things: 19And your seed would have been as the sand of the sea, and your offspring as the dust of the earth. Then he shows the excess of goodness: And even now you shall <οὐ μὴ> not be utterly destroyed, nor shall your name perish from before me. But nevertheless I will deem you worthy of mercy even though you have despised my laws, and you will again be called my people.

11Ἕνεκεν ἐμοῦ ποιήσω σοι, ὅτι τὸ ἐμὸν ὄνομα βεβηλοῦται, καὶ τὴν δόξαν μου ἑτέρῳ οὐ δώσω. Ἐπειδὴ γὰρ νομίζουσιν οἱ πολέμιοι μὴ μόνον ὑμῶν ἀλλὰ καὶ ἐμοῦ περιγενέσθαι καὶ διὰ τὴν ἐμὴν ἀσθένειαν κεκρατηκέναι ὑμῶν, τῆς πικρᾶς ὑμᾶς ἐκείνης ἐλευθερώσω δουλείας, ἵνα καὶ οἱ ἀγνοοῦντές με τὴν ἐμὴν καταμάθωσι δύναμιν. 12Ἄκουέ μου Ἰακὼβ καὶ Ἰσραὴλ ὃν ἐγὼ καλῶ· Ἐγωεἰμι πρῶτος καὶ ἐγώ εἰμι εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα. Εἰ πὼν γάρ · Τὴν δόξαν μου ἑτέρῳ οὐ δώσω, εἰκότως ταῦτα ἐπήγαγε διδάσκων ὡς αὐτὸς καὶ τιμωρεῖται καὶ σῴζει. Αὐτὸς τὸν Ἀβραὰμ ἐκ γῆς Χαλδαίων ἐξήγαγεν, αὐτὸς αὐτοὺς τοῖς Βαβυλωνίοις παρέδωκεν, αὐτὸς τῆς ἐκείνων δυναστείας ἀπήλλαξεν, αὐτὸς δώ σει καὶ τὴν καινὴν διαθήκην. 13Καὶ ἡ χείρ μου ἐθεμελίωσε τὴν γῆν, καὶ ἡ δεξιά μου ἐστερέωσε τὸν οὐρανόν. Καλέσω αὐτοὺς ἐγώ, καὶ στήσονται ἅμα 14καὶ συναχθήσονται πάντες καὶ ἀκούσονται, τίς αὐτοῖς ἀνήγ γειλε ταῦτα. Καὶ δημιουργός εἰμι πάντων καὶ δεσπότης καὶ μάλα μοι ῥᾴδιον καὶ τὴν ἄψυχον καλέσαι καὶ παραστῆσαί μοι κτίσιν. Κύριος ἀγαπῶν σε ἐποίησε τὸ θέλημα αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ Βαβυλῶνα τοῦ ἆραι σπέρμα Χαλδαίων. ∆ιὰ τὴν περὶ σέ φησι φιλοστοργίαν πανωλεθρίαν ἐποίσω Βαβυλωνίοις καὶ πρόρριζον αὐτῶν ἀνασπάσω τὸ κράτος. 15Ἐγὼ ἐλάλησα καὶ ἐγὼ ἐκάλεσα, ἤγαγον αὐτὸν καὶ εὐόδωσα τὴν ὁδὸν αὐτοῦ. Περὶ τοῦ Κύρου ταῦτα λέγει· οὗτος γὰρ καὶ τὴν Βαβυλωνίων δυναστείαν κατέλυσε καὶ τοὺς Ἰουδαίους δουλείας ἀπήλλαξεν. 16Προσαγάγετε πρός με καὶ ἀκούετε ταῦτα· Οὐκ ἀπ' ἀρχῆς ἐν κρυφῇ λελάληκα οὐδὲ ἐν |160 b| τόπῳ γῆς σκοτεινῷ· ἡνίκα ἐγίνετο, ἐκεῖ ἤμην. Ἐπειδὴ ταῖς σκυθρωπαῖς προρρή σεσιν ἠπιστήσατε, ταῖς γοῦν θυμήρεσι προφητείαις πιστεύ σατε. Οὐ γὰρ τοῖς εἰδώλοις παραπλησίως ἐν σκοτεινοῖς τισι καὶ ἀδύτοις τόποις τὰ ψευδῆ προθεσπίζω ἀλλ' οὕτως αὐτὰ καὶ πρὸ τῆς ἐκβάσεως οἶδα σαφῶς ὡς αὐτοῖς παρὼν τοῖς πράγμασι καὶ ἕκαστον θεωρῶν. Καὶ νῦν κύριος ἀπέσταλκέ με καὶ τὸ πνεῦμα αὐτοῦ. Ὁ προφήτης τοῦτο ἔφη. Οὐκ ἀπ' ἐμαυτοῦ φησι φθέγγομαι ἀλλ' ὑπὸ τοῦ θεοῦ τῶν ὅλων καὶ τοῦ παναγίου πνεύματος ἐκπεμφθείς. Σαφῶς δὲ ἡμῖν ἐνταῦθα ἕτερον ἔδειξε παρὰ τὸ τοῦ θεοῦ πρόσωπον, τὸ τοῦ πνεύματος πρόσωπον, εἰς ἔλεγχον καὶ τῶν Ἰουδαίων καὶ τῶν τὰ Σαβελλίου νοσούντων. Ἔφη γάρ· Κύριος ἀπέσταλκέ με καὶ τὸ πνεῦμα αὐτοῦ. Ἐπειδὴ γὰρ πολλάκις περὶ τῆς μιᾶς διελέχθη θεότητος νῦν μὲν λέγων· «Ἐγώ εἰμι πρῶτος καὶ ἐγώ εἰμι εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα», νῦν δέ· «Ἔμπροσθέν μου οὐκ ἐγένετο ἄλλος θεὸς καὶ μετ' ἐμὲ οὐκ ἔσται», καὶ τὰς ἰδιότητας τῶν ὑποστάσεων ἀναγκαίως διδάσκει ποτὲ μὲν υἱοῦ καὶ πατρὸς ποτὲ δὲ πατρὸς καὶ πνεύματος ἁγίου. Καὶ περὶ μὲν υἱοῦ καὶ πατρὸς ἔφη· «Ὅτι ἐν σοὶ ὁ θεός ἐστι καὶ οὐκ ἔστι θεὸς πλὴν σοῦ», περὶ δὲ τοῦ πατρὸς καὶ πνεύματος· «Κύριος ἀπέσταλκέ με καὶ τὸ πνεῦμα αὐτοῦ.» 17Οὕτως λέγει κύριος ὁ ῥυσάμενός σε ὁ ἅγιος Ἰσραήλ· Ἐγώ εἰμι κύριος ὁ θεός σου, δέδειχά σοι εἰς ὠφέλειαν τοῦ εὑρεῖν σε τὴν ὁδόν μου, ἐν ᾗ πορεύσῃ ἐν αὐτῇ. Οὐκ εἴασά σε πλανᾶσθαι, ἀλλὰ τὴν εὐθεῖάν σοι πορείαν ὑπ έδειξα. ∆ηλοῖ δὲ διὰ ταύτης τὸν νόμον. Καὶ σαφέστερον τοῦτο διὰ τῶν ἐπιφερομένων διδάσκει· 18Καὶ εἰ ἤκουσας τῶν ἐντο λῶν μου, ἐγένετο ἂν ὡς ποταμὸς ἡ εἰρήνη σου καὶ ἡ δικαι οσύνη σου ὡς κύματα θαλάσσης. Εἰ κατὰ τοὺς ἐμοὺς ἐπολιτεύσω νόμους, οὐκ ἂν ἐγεύσω πολεμικῶν συμφορῶν ἀλλ' εἰ ρήνη ς ἀπήλαυες ἀενάου ποταμοῦ ῥεύματα μιμου μένης καὶ μηδέποτε διακοπτομένης. Ἐν εἰρ ήνῃ δὲ βιοτεύουσα καὶ τοῖς ἐμοῖς ἑπομένη προστάγμασι τῆς δικαιοσύνης ἂν ἐκτήσω τὸν πλοῦ τον πλημμυροῦντα καὶ τοῖς θαλαττίοις παραβαλλόμενον κύμασιν. Ἐπειδὴ δὲ τούτοις προσέχειν οὐκ ἤ θελον Ἰουδαῖοι, σαρκικῷ δὲ φρονήματι προστετηκότες καὶ τὴν πολυγονίαν εὐδαιμο νίαν ἐ νόμιζον, καὶ ταῦτα εἰκότως ὁ προφητικὸς προστίθησι λόγος· 19Καὶ ἐγένετο ἂν ὡς ἡ ἄμμος τῆς θαλάσσης τὸ σπέρμα σου καὶ τὰ ἔκγονά σου ὡσεὶ χοῦς τῆς γῆς. Εἶτα τὴν ὑπερβολὴν τῆς ἀγαθ ότητος δείκνυσιν· Καὶ οὐδὲ νῦν <οὐ μὴ> ἐξολοθρευθῇς, οὐδὲ ἀπολεῖται τὸ ὄνομά σου ἐναντίον ἐμοῦ. Ἀλλ' ὅμως καὶ τῶν ἐμῶν καταφρονή σαντας νόμων φειδοῦς ἀξιώσω, καὶ πάλιν ἐμὸς χρηματίσεις λαός.
