an argument is brought to a conclusion, both that those believed to give oracles in the city are not gods, nor even good demons, but on the contrary happen to be certain sorcerers and deceivers and impostors, having put forward for the destruction and perversion of true piety the error among men, both the other and that 6.11.83 concerning fate. From which, since no one from of old except Jesus our savior has redeemed the whole race of men, it is with good reason that in the beginnings of the Preparation for the Gospel all these present things have been treated by us with diligence, so that we might learn in fact from what ancestors we were sprung, and by what deceit they were formerly possessed; and having recovered from so great and vast a blindness and godlessness, both we ourselves and the whole life of humanity have found the healing of the long and chronic demonic activity through the saving teaching of the Gospel alone.

συναιρεῖται λόγος, εἴς τε τὸ μὴ θεοὺς εἶναι τοὺς κατὰ πόλιν χρᾶν νενομισμένους καὶ εἰς τὸ μηδὲ ἀγαθοὺς δαίμονας, τοὐναντίον δὲ γόητάς τινας καὶ πλάνους καὶ ἀπατεῶνας τυγχάνειν, ἐπ' ὀλέθρῳ καὶ διαστροφῇ τῆς ἀληθοῦς εὐσεβείας τὴν εἰς ἀνθρώπους πλάνην, τήν τε ἄλλην καὶ τὴν 6.11.83 περὶ εἱμαρμένης, προβεβλημένους. ἀφ' ἧς μηδενὸς τῶν ἐξ αἰῶνος πλὴν Ἰησοῦ τοῦ σωτῆρος ἡμῶν τὸ πᾶν τῶν ἀνθρώπων γένος λελυτρωμένου, εἰκότως ἡμῖν ἐν ἀρχαῖς τῆς Εὐαγγελικῆς Προπαρασκευῆς τὰ παρόντα πάντα διὰ σπουδῆς γέγονεν, ὡς ἂν ἔργῳ μάθοιμεν, ἐκ τίνων προγόνων φύντες καὶ οἵᾳ τὸ πρὶν ἀπάτῃ συνεχομένων ἐξ ὁπόσης τε καὶ πηλίκης ἀνανεύσαντες αὐτοί τε ἡμεῖς καὶ ὁ σύμπας τῶν ἀνθρώπων βίος ἀβλεψίας τε καὶ ἀθεότητος τὴν ἴασιν τῆς μακρᾶς καὶ πολυχρονίου δαιμονικῆς ἐνεργείας διὰ μόνης τῆς σωτηρίου Εὐαγγελικῆς εὑράμεθα διδασκαλίας.
