I alone exist without beginning from my Father who is without beginning; but not one of the angels yet, nor indeed of the archangels, nor of the other orders has ever seen my nature, nor me myself, the whole creator, such as I am. (280) But they behold only a ray of glory and an effluence of my light and are deified. For as a mirror of the sun that has received its rays, or as a crystal stone illuminated at midday, so do they all receive the rays of my divinity. But to see me whole, no one has yet been deemed worthy, not of angels, not of men, not of holy powers. For I am beyond all things and invisible to all, not envying them at all, that they should not behold me, nor as being uncomely do I hide myself from being seen, but no one was found worthy of my divinity, nor has the creature become equal in power to the creator. For this is not expedient; but seeing a small radiance, they are initiated into my being and know me as God who brought them into being, and with astonishment and fear they serve me with hymns. For it is not possible for another God to be brought forth by nature (281) equal in power to the creator or of the same nature as him, for it is not at all possible for that which is created to become of one substance with the creator. For how could the created ever be made equal to the uncreated? of the one who is always the same and without beginning and uncreated
