but confessing that he became man through infinite philanthropy; for those who do not tolerate looking upon an icon of his bodily form clearly deny that he took our form, Judaizing in this, even if they pretend to confess that Christ came within our nature; for he who is not depicted in an icon is not a man, but some kind of monstrosity; for how will someone who has a face not be depicted in an icon? If then Christ had a face, upon which the deicides spat, it is clear that he is circumscribable, that is, he is depicted in an icon; but if he had one, but is not depicted in an icon, as seems to the impious, he is clearly a phantom; for the Manichaeanizing iconoclasts also hold the impiety of Valentinus. From their error may you be completely delivered, both you and anyone similar to you in virtue and piety.
