of the incomprehensible, of my God. Truly the soul of every man is in image a rational image of the Word. How, tell me, teach me. Hear the Word himself: the God from God, God the Word, is co-eternal with the Father and with the Spirit. Thus therefore my soul is also in His image, for having a mind and bearing a word it has these essentially indivisible and unconfused, likewise of one substance, one the three unitedly, but also dividedly. They are always both united (326) and are divided: for they are united without confusion and are divided without separation. If you take away one of these, you have certainly taken away all: for a mindless, wordless soul will be equal to the irrational beasts; but without a soul it is not possible for a mind or a word to exist. Thus therefore from the image understand the archetype! Without the Spirit there is neither Father, nor His Word; the Father is spirit, and His Son, spirit, even if he put on flesh, and God the Spirit again; for both are one in nature and substance, just as mind, soul and word. But the Father begot the Word ineffably. Just as mind is from my soul, or rather in my soul, so from the Father the spirit, or rather in the Father both remains and proceeds inexpressibly.
