Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me. And when he was healed, he says: 'Your faith has saved you'." 20Refutation20 ˉνˉα. In faith there is no falsehood; for if it lies, it is not faith. He says, then: 'Son of David,' and he who confessed the name is praised and receives his request, and was not rebuked as a liar, but was blessed as a believer. Therefore, he who, because of the invocation of the name, granted sight to the blind man was not without flesh. For he truly was, and not in appearance, born of the seed of David according to the flesh from Mary the holy virgin and through the Holy Spirit. 2.145 20Scholion20 ˉνˉβ. He cut out "taking the twelve, he said: Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be accomplished. For he will be delivered up and will be killed, and on the third day he will rise again". All these things he cut out. 20Refutation20 ˉνˉβ. So that he might walk uprightly in nothing, and by not walking uprightly he might be refuted as a schemer in every way. For he hid the sayings, so that he might supposedly deny the things concerning the passion. But later, for one confessing that he was crucified, the labor of his scheming will be in vain for him. 20Scholion20 ˉνˉγ. He cut out the chapter concerning the donkey and Bethphage and that concerning the city and the temple, because it was written "My house shall be called a house of prayer, and you make it a den of robbers". 20Refutation20 ˉνˉγ. Wickedness does not see its own refutation, for it is blind. But it thinks it is able to hide the way of truth, which is impossible. For he immediately jumped ahead, omitting all the aforementioned chapters on account of the witnessed place of the temple being his own and built in his name, and leaving Jericho, he omitted the entire sequence of the journey, how he came to Bethphage; for there was by nature an old main road, leading to Jerusalem through the Mount of Olives, not being unknown to those who also relate the place. But so that he might be refuted from his own mouth, he says "it happened on one of the days as he was teaching in the temple, they sought to lay hands on him and were afraid," as the chapter after this, ˉνˉδ, has it. How then from Jericho did he come to be in the temple? It will be known from the journey itself and from the distance of the road; but it is so that the schemer might be seen to have hidden the things that happened on the road and were spoken in the temple by the savior himself before this account, I mean the "My house shall be called a house of prayer" and the rest as the prophecy has it. 20Scholion20 ˉνˉδ. "And they sought to lay hands on him and were afraid". 2.146 20Refutation20 ˉνˉδ. It was observed and interpreted in the preceding refutation along with the phrase with the appropriate summary. 20Scholion20 ˉνˉε. Again he cut off the things concerning the vineyard let out to tenants and "what then is this: The stone which the builders rejected?" 20Refutation20 ˉνˉε. This will not harm us at all. For even if he should cut it out, he has not cut it away from us, but has harmed himself and his own; for the refutation against him is sufficient through many testimonies. 20Scholion20 ˉνˉ. He cut off "But that the dead are raised, Moses showed at the bush, when he calls the Lord the God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob. But he is a God of the living and not of the dead". 20Refutation20 ˉνˉ. One may marvel at the folly of the vain-minded man, how he does not understand that this testimony happens to be equal to that of Lazarus the poor man and to the parable of those not permitted to enter into the kingdom; the remains of which parables he allowed and did not cut out, but has left behind to his own shame "there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth". but of a finger
