will be able to. For the house appears to have been built in the times of Ezra after the captivity. Therefore it must be said concerning such a restoration of the house to its ancient state that David, having foreseen this more prophetically, composed the ode for the dedication of the house. And those sing the ode who have put off the old man and put on the new man who is renewed to become in the image of his creator, having been discipled in the new covenant, having accepted the newness of Christ's teaching. Here, then, all the earth is commanded to sing, but in Psalm 65 to worship: For let all the earth worship you and sing psalms to you; and in Habakkuk it is said, The whole earth is full of his praise (that is, of God), and in other places, The whole earth is full of his glory. Therefore all these who sing to God are commanded, in addition to singing to him, also to bless his name. For through good works and knowledge of the truth one blesses and glorifies the name of God. Thus it is said in the Gospel, Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven. For since the name of God has been called upon us, by doing all things according to right reason through the blessings with which we bless, we activate the name of the Lord which we bear; for it not being otherwise, we pray for it to become blessed and holy. And with as much precision as possible it has been said concerning this in Psalm 33 in the verse, Let us exalt his name together; whence for now we are content with what has been said briefly. Consider if it is possible also to interpret the preceding words in this way: those adhering to the old covenant, singing about tangible events that occurred, sang an old song. For when Pharaoh, the tyrant of Egypt, was drowned, Moses sings with the whole Hebrew multitude an ode whose refrain was, Let us sing to the Lord, for he has been gloriously glorified; horse and rider he has thrown into the sea. And concerning other events it is possible to see Israel singing in a more physical sense in the Pentateuch and the rest of the old scripture. But those who have departed from the oldness of the letter to be discipled in the newness of the spirit, concerning things accomplished intellectually and spiritually, sing a new song to the Lord, when the devil who holds the power of death has been abolished and the tyrant of the spiritual Egypt has been submerged, Jesus having tasted death for everyone by the grace of God. And singing to the Lord, these people, having been freed from all curses and having partaken of the blessing granted from God, bless the name of the one who blessed them with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.
930 Ps 95,2b.3 The preceding commands are given to the disciples of Jesus
who hear, Go and make disciples of all nations. For the Holy Spirit wills them to carry out the evangelical work with intense and unceasing diligence. For this 'Day by day' shows that they are to preach continually God's salvation, about which it is said, This is truly the Savior of the world, and again, To you is born this day a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. For as the apostles preach his salvation day by day, the prophecy which says, All flesh shall see the salvation of our God will find its fulfillment. It is possible to understand 'Day by day' as the two covenants of the Savior who is the sun of righteousness. Therefore, since those commanded to preach the gospel, being experts in the law, also had the light of the first day, consequently from that day, being illumined by another day according to the new covenant, they will announce God's salvation. And preaching the Savior Christ, who is God's salvation, they announce to all
