but also of philanthropy, by patience in temptations and by love for enemies. For this is philanthropy, to do good to your enemies and to love them as friends, as genuine benefactors, and to pray for all those who treat you spitefully, and to have an equal inward love for all, both good and evil, and to lay down your soul daily for all, for salvation I say, and that one, or even all, might be saved, if it is possible. These things will make you an imitator of the Master, child, and will show you to be a true image of the Creator, and an imitator in all things (329) of the divine perfection. Then the Creator—pay attention to what I am about to express to you!—will send the divine Spirit; I do not mean another soul for you, of the kind you have, but Spirit, that which is from God I say to you, and He will breathe into and dwell and essentially tabernacle and illumine and make radiant and recast you completely, and will make the corruptible incorruptible and renew again the aged house, the house of your soul I say. And with it, He will make the whole body altogether incorruptible as well, and will make you a god by grace, like the prototype, O wonder,

Ταύτῃ δέ συναφθαρτίσει καί τό σῶμα ὅλον ὅλως καί θεόν σε κατά χάριν ὅμοιον τοῦ πρωτοτύπου ἀπεργάσεται, ὤ θαῦμα,
