For the spirit of life was supplied from there to all, and was distributed to the members of Christ. This I desired to see even when dissolved, that which is higher than the heavens, wider than the world, brighter than the sunbeam, hotter than fire, more firm than adamant, deemed worthy to love Christ, as no one else has loved. I wished to see the dust of the hands that were in 63.848 chains, by the laying on of which the Holy Spirit was supplied, by which the divine letters were written; of those hands, which when the viper saw, it fell off into the fire. I wished to see the dust of the eyes that were nobly blinded, that looked up for the salvation of the world, that were deemed worthy to see Christ even in the body, that see earthly things and see them not, that behold things not seen, that knew not sleep, that kept watch in the middle of the night, that did not suffer the affections of the eyes. I wished also to see the dust of those feet, that ran over the world and grew not weary, that were bound in the stocks, when the prison was shaken, that went about the inhabited and uninhabited world, that journeyed often. And why must I speak in detail? I wished to see the tomb, where the weapons of righteousness are laid up, the weapons of light, the members that are now living, but were deadened when he lived, the members of Christ, that had put on Christ, the temple of the Spirit, the holy building, that were bound to the Spirit, that were nailed by the fear of Christ, that bear the marks of Christ. This body fortifies that city, which is safer than any tower and countless walls; and with this one, that of Peter; for he honored him while living; For I went up to Jerusalem to visit Peter. Let us not then only admire him or be astonished, but also imitate him, so that when we depart from here we may be deemed worthy to see him, and to partake of the unutterable glory; of which may we all be deemed worthy, by the grace and loving-kindness of our Lord Jesus Christ, with whom be glory to the Father, together with the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. A word spoken lightly has overthrown whole houses, and souls
it has destroyed and sunk. And the loss of money it is possible to repair again; but a word that has once escaped, it is not possible to recover again. Have you heard a word? he says, let it die with you. Quench it, bury it, do not permit it to go out, nor to be moved at all. Slay what was said, commit it to oblivion, so that you may become like those who have not heard. Most men, whenever they say something secret, entreat the one who hears, and put him on oath to tell no one else from then on; showing by this very act, that they have done a thing worthy of accusation. For if you entreat him to tell no one else, much more ought you not to have said these things to him first. For if you wish that the word not be carried to another, do not say it yourself; but when you have betrayed the keeping of the word to another, you do things superfluous and useless

Τοῦτο τὸ σῶμα τειχίζει τὴν πόλιν ἐκείνην, ὃ παντὸς πύργου καὶ μυρίων περιβόλων ἐστὶν ἀσφαλέστερον· καὶ μετὰ τούτου τὸ Πέτρου· καὶ γὰρ ζῶντα ἐτίμα· Ἀνέβην γὰρ εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα ἱστορῆσαι Πέτρον. ∆ιὰ τοῦτο καὶ ἀπελθόντα κατηξίωσεν ὁμόσκηνον αὐτῷ ποιῆσαι ἡ χάρις. ἀπώλεσε καὶ κατέδυσε. Καὶ τῶν μὲν χρημάτων τὴν ζημίαν διορθοῦσθαι πάλιν ἔνι· λόγον δὲ ἐκπηδήσαντα ἅπαξ, ἀνακτῆσαι πάλιν οὐκ ἔνι. Ἤκουσας λόγον, φησὶ, συναποθανέτω σοι. Σβέσον αὐτὸν, κατάχωσον, μὴ συγχωρήσῃς ἐξελθεῖν, μηδὲ κινηθῆναι παράπαν. Ἀπόκτεινον τὸ λεχθὲν, λήθῃ παράδος, ἵνα τοῖς μὴ ἀκούσασιν ὅμοιος γένῃ. Οἱ πολλοὶ τῶν ἀνθρώπων ἐπειδὰν εἴπωσί τι τῶν ἀποῤῥήτων, παρακαλοῦσι τὸν ἀκούοντα, καὶ ὁρκοῦσι μηδενὶ λοιπὸν εἰπεῖν ἑτέρῳ· αὐτόθεν δηλοῦντες, ὅτι πρᾶγμα ἄξιον κατηγορίας ἐποίησαν.
