calls the whole world to dance. 2. "Sing to the Lord, bless his name, proclaim his salvation from day to day." Each day, he says, recount the benefit that has come to be. Then he also teaches to whom one must bring such a narrative. 3. "Declare his glory among the nations; among all peoples his marvelous deeds." Let every race of men enjoy such teaching, and learn the divine wonders. 4. For the Lord is great, and greatly to be praised; he is to be feared above all gods." For the Lord of all has an ineffable greatness, and against the falsely named gods he has shown his own power, and exposed their deceit. For he has revealed this through what follows. 5. "For all the gods of the nations are demons, but the Lord made the heavens." [For about him the blessed Paul also says: "For if they had known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory."] For the so-called gods were shown to be wicked demons; but our maker of the heavens has been revealed. [For at his voluntary passion not only was the sun darkened and the rocks were split, and the veil of the temple was torn; but also the powers of the heavens were shaken, and, to put it briefly, the universe threatened non-existence, seeing the one who bears all things hanging on a cross.] 6. "Confession and beauty are before him, holiness and magnificence are in his sanctuary." For having assumed human nature, and through it having appeared to men, he sends forth the flashes of his own magnificence, 80.1648 and draws all to worship; for he has named the temple which he assumed his Sanctuary. And he has already mentioned beauty also in the 44th psalm: "For he said, 'You are beautiful in your comeliness beyond the sons of men.'" 7, 8. "Bring to the Lord, O families of the nations, bring to the Lord glory and honor. Bring to the Lord the glory of his name." Therefore, run, all men, to the Master who wishes to save, and offering to him the fitting reverence, and not seeing the benefactor with the eyes of the body, offer up hymnody to his name. "Take up sacrifices, and go into his courts. [9] Worship the Lord in his holy court;" He calls sacrifices the rational ones, which we see continually offered and ministered by the priests. And the multitude of the courts indicates the churches. Besides, he did not command this to the Jews, so that one might suspect the legal sacrifices; but to the families of the nations, who offer the sacrifices of the new covenant in the churches. Concerning these things God also foretold through another prophet, speaking to the Jews: "I have no pleasure in you, and I will not accept a sacrifice from your hands; because from the rising of the sun to its setting my name is great among the nations, and in every place incense is offered to my name, and a pure sacrifice." -"Let all the earth be shaken before his face." But Aquila, Be in travail from his face, all the earth. Thus also Symmachus. And these things are like those spoken by the prophet Isaiah, "Because of your fear, O Lord, we have conceived, and have been in travail, and have brought forth the spirit of your salvation, which we have wrought upon the earth." And here, therefore, the prophetic word exhorts the nations that have received the seeds of salvation, to be in travail and bring forth piety, and to be shaken from their former position, and to be supported and fixed in the divine laws. 10. "Say among the nations, that the Lord has reigned; for he has established the world, which shall not be shaken." Proclaim therefore the kingdom of the God of all; which has changed the world 80.1649 when it was wandering, and made it firm when it was being carried hither and thither. And so also Symmachus, The Lord reigned, and made the world unshakeable. It is clear, however, that the kingdom of God is eternal; but it was shown at that time through the change of things. "He will judge the peoples with equity." Since he has shown God to be king, it is fitting also of judgment
