I will be silent, until her righteousness goes forth as light, and her salvation burns as a torch, or according to Aquila: and her salvation will be kindled as a torch. For I will not be able, he says, to be still and to keep quiet, but it is necessary for me to cry out night and day, and to be occupied with prayers and supplications. until I see with my eyes the result of these very things that have been said, which will be when the righteousness of Jerusalem and her salvation shines forth like a light upon all men; for the light that is to shine in her will not be confined to her alone, but will also impart its own gleamings to all the nations. Wherefore he adds: and nations will see your righteousness, and all the kings of the earth your glory. And here again he calls Zion and Jerusalem the godly commonwealth that was long established among the Jews and the chorus of the righteous and God-loving men and prophets who distinguished themselves among them, all those worthy of salvation, whose light he promises will shine out upon all the nations beyond every torch, so that all the kings will see their glory, that is, signifying the kingdoms on earth in this way. Then he adds: and you will call the new name, which the Lord will name it; for the name of the Lord adorns his church. Then, he says, you will also be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord, which she will then receive, saying: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith; henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness," and a royal diadem in the hand of your God; for truly all who succeed through him happen to be the crown of Christ, and the holy martyrs who have contended in the struggles for him are a royal diadem of his kingdom, whom the Father, having chosen with his own hand, places upon the Son, crowning him and honoring him with a royal diadem for the multitude of those saved by him and through him. And when these things are fulfilled, she who has received the new name will no longer be called Forsaken, nor her Land Desolate, even if she was once such a one, but now having been deemed worthy of so many good things, she will be called, he says, My Desire, that is, she will be named according to my will, and your land Inhabited. In the new age of Christ's kingdom, she will be established, having as her only inhabitants those who will be deemed worthy of the promises of God, who will live in such gladness and joy as to be like a young man living with a pure virgin, in no way defiling her virginity, but rejoicing in her virginal chastity and in pure fellowship and cohabitation. and so your sons will rejoice, but the Lord himself, receiving his own bride, you, the holy church, composed of perfect members, both from the former people and from the new one from the nations. As a bridegroom rejoices over the bride, he will rejoice, and he will appoint guards, namely divine angels and holy powers, to watch and guard the walls and the enclosures of this new Jerusalem, so that he himself, ruling in peace, might live for all eternity. And these aforesaid guards, he says, will not cease through all the day and through all the night from praising with hymns and doxologies the author of such great goods and giving thanks to him for the salvation of so many. But instead of: for there is none like you, if he should set right and make Jerusalem a boast upon the earth, Symmachus says: do not be silent, he says, nor give him rest, until he prepares and until he makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth. And to whom have these things been said, if not to those who said above: "For Zion's sake I will not be silent, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until her righteousness goes forth as light"? For since the prophetic chorus has said these things, the Holy Spirit, encouraging them, urges them to persist in their prayers for the things that have been said; wherefore he says: do not be silent, nor give rest, clearly to the Lord who promises these things, until he prepares and until

Ἐν τῷ καινῷ αἰῶνι τῆς Χριστοῦ βασιλείας συστήσεται μόνους ἕξουσα οἰκήτορας τοὺς τῶν ἐπαγγελιῶν τοῦ θεοῦ καταξιωθησομένους, οἳ καὶ ἐν τοσαύτῃ θυμηδίᾳ καὶ εὐφροσύνῃ διάξουσιν ὡς ἐοικέναι νεανίσκῳ ἁγίῳ ἀνδρὶ συνόντι παρθένῳ καθαρᾷ, οὐδαμῶς μὲν αὐτῆς τὴν παρθενίαν σπιλοῦντι, τῇ δὲ ἁγνείᾳ τῇ παρθενικῇ καὶ τῇ καθαρᾷ συνδιατριβῇ καὶ συνοικίᾳ χαίροντι. καὶ οἱ μὲν υἱοί σου οὕτως εὐφρανθήσονται, αὐτὸς δὲ ὁ κύριος τὴν ἑαυτοῦ νύμφην ἀπολαβών σε τὴν ἁγίαν ἐκκλησίαν ἐκ τελείων μελῶν συνεστῶσαν, ἔκ τε τοῦ προτέρου λαοῦ καὶ ἐκ τοῦ νέου τοῦ ἐξ ἐθνῶν. οἷα νυμφίος ἐπὶ νύμφῃ εὐφρανθήσεται, καταστήσει τε φύλακας, ἀγγέλους δηλαδὴ θείους καὶ δυνάμεις ἁγίας εἰς τὸ τηρεῖν καὶ φυλάττειν τὰ τείχη καὶ τοὺς περιβόλους τῆς νέας ταύτης Ἰερουσαλήμ, ὅπως ἐν εἰρήνῃ κατάρχων αὐτὸς τὸν σύμπαντα αἰῶνα διάγοι. οὗτοι δὲ οἱ προλεχθέντες φύλακες διὰ πάσης ἡμέρας καὶ διὰ πάσης νυκτὸς οὐ διαλείψουσί φησιν ὕμνοις καὶ δοξολογίαις τὸν τῶν τοσούτων ἀγαθῶν αἴτιον ἀνυμνοῦντες καὶ εὐχαριστοῦντες αὐτῷ ἐπὶ τῇ τῶν τοσούτων σωτηρίᾳ. Ἀντὶ δὲ τοῦ· οὐκ ἔστι γὰρ ὑμῖν ὅμοιος, ἐὰν διορθώσῃ καὶ ποιήσῃ Ἰερουσαλὴμ ἀγαυρίαμα ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, ὁ Σύμμαχος μὴ ἡσυχάσητέ φησι, μηδὲ δῶτε ἡσυχάσαι αὐτῷ, ἕως ἑτοιμάσει καὶ ἕως θῇ τὴν Ἰερουσαλὴμ αἴνεσιν ἐν τῇ γῇ. τίνι δὲ ταῦτα λέλεκται ἢ τοῖς ἀνωτέρω φήσασι· «∆ιὰ Σιὼν οὐ σιωπήσομαι καὶ διὰ Ἰερουσαλὴμ οὐκ ἀνήσω, ἕως ἂν ἐξέλθῃ ὡς φῶς ἡ δικαιοσύνη αὐτῆς»; τοῦ γὰρ προφητικοῦ χοροῦ ταῦτα εἰρηκότος τὸ πνεῦμα τὸ ἅγιον ἐπιθαρσῦνον αὐτοὺς προτρέπει ἐπιμένειν ταῖς ὑπὲρ τῶν εἰρημένων εὐχαῖς· διό φησι· μὴ ἡσυχάσητε, μηδὲ δῶτε ἡσυχάσαι, δῆλον δ' ὅτι τῷ ταῦτα ἐπαγγελλομένῳ κυρίῳ, ἕως ἑτοιμάσει καὶ ἕως
