the rope hanging from the mast, which is let out and stretched. from being above. Transgression. properly of those overstepping their own boundaries. This is also used for arrogance; for the arrogant seem to do what is beyond them. -of painful transgression. Palate. the roof of the mouth. from the food being driven under it; for erōē is impulse. or it is transferred from upper-story buildings, those raised above the era, that is, the earth. The beard under the chin. the hairs below the chin. from being under and lying under the chin. Others derive it from hiēmi, whose future is hēsō, hēnē and hypēnē. from the sending forth of the hairs. But in the verbal lexicon I found that it means mustache, beard, chin-beard, and the hair on the upper lip. Service. properly, where the rowers sit. upsilon.1772 Suspicion and to suspect. The preposition hypo indicates a lack of a complete disposition. To suspect, then, is to not completely understand the matter at hand. Outline. an example, an outline, a character, a statement. Under a scar. with guile. as Demosthenes says. Hypocrisy. a feigned character. hidden bitterness. Remembrance. the recovery from forgetfulness of some event. Subjection. the undiscriminating obedience of the one who is subject. Conception. the rough knowledge, and conjecture, and opinion, and suspicion. Counsels. admonitions. Foundation. a foundation. Hypothesis. cause. a summary. *Men are accustomed to call hypotheses the unprovable first principles, which they also call axioms. And they call hypotheses also those things which have proof, but which they take and suppose without their proper proof, as intending to prove them later.* upsilon.1773 A comma. a mark of a thought not yet completed, but still lacking something. Representation. the imitation of underlying bodies or things. Interpretation differs from prophecy, because prophecy tells before it happens what will happen later, but interpretation tells while it is happening, or after it has happened, what has happened or is happening. it speaks concerning this very thing, about present things or those that are just about to come. Description. a brief account, indicating what has happened. Under pledge. a surety. a goat under pledge. for rhēn is a sheep. Hypostasis. hypostasis according to the ecclesiastical and apostolic tradition is the person, that is, the character, as the Apostle says the Son is the effulgence of his glory and the character of His hypostasis; that is, a person consubstantial with the character and hypostasis of the Father Himself. And we speak of persons and characters with respect to God, as being incorporeal and unformed. A person, that is a hypostasis, according to the holy fathers, is the particular as distinct from the common. For the nature of each thing is what is common; but the hypostases are the particulars, as I say. Nature, that is, one substance, is the Godhead, but there are three hypostases, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. three persons, that is, characters, but one substance and genus. If, then, you say, 'may the Godhead protect us,' you have signified the entire upsilon.1774 holy Trinity; but if you say, 'the Son of God be with us,' you have spoken of one of the three hypostases, and not the whole Godhead. There are three hypostatic properties in the Godhead: the unbegottenness of the Father, the begottenness of the Son, and the procession of the Holy Spirit. For the Father is not begotten, nor does the Son proceed, nor is the Holy Spirit begotten. And hypostasis is spoken of in five ways: hypostasis; person; character; individual, and particular. And nature is spoken of, for example, 'angel-ness'. And the particular appellations of each are hypostases, that is, Michael, Gabriel. Likewise, there is one common nature, humanity; but the hypostases are Peter and Paul and the other persons of humanity, and the characters. The nature, then, is sovereign and the cause and begetter of the hypostases within it. And for this reason they are called hypostases, as standing under the nature, their source. If you say, 'the angel is a good nature,' you have signified their entire substance; but if you say, 'Gabriel is great,' you have indicated one hypostasis out of all of them. Man is pitiable, behold the whole substance; but Cain and Judas are hypostases. †Again if you say, the bird is light,
