having nothing at all of the Father's divinity. But some of those with them *, and at the same time because of the misfortune of the time that had so occurred, they accepted it, and the majority of them were conscious of it together, while some were even ignorant, as was shown later. For along with these were Patrophilus of Scythopolis and after him Philip who was appointed successor there to the aforementioned, and many others who by nature held this heresy. But now after their death, when their evil doctrine has spread far and wide and they speak with boldness on account of carnal favor, and no longer being hindered they preach their enterprise clearly, no longer restrained by any shame nor appearing to act by some command. And so that no one may seem to be carried along in vain, I will set forth here the creed that was set forth there by Acacius and his followers, with the signatures of those who were at the synod itself. And it is this: 3.298 25. The bishops assembled from various provinces in Seleucia of Isauria, according to the order of the piety of our most God-fearing emperor Constantius. We who have assembled in Seleucia of Isauria according to the royal will have declared these things: Yesterday, which was the fifth day before the Kalends of October, we have made every effort with all good order to preserve the peace of the church and to treat steadfastly concerning the faith, as our most God-loving emperor Constantius commanded, according to the prophetic and evangelical voices, and to introduce nothing to the ecclesiastical faith contrary to the divine scriptures. But since in the synod some insulted some of us, and silenced others, not allowing them to speak, and shut others out against their will, and had with them those who had been deposed from various provinces, and brought with them those who had been appointed contrary to the canon, so that the council became full of tumult from every side, as also the most illustrious count Leonas and the most illustrious governor of the province, Lauricius, witnessed with their own eyes, for this reason we declare that we do not flee from the authentic faith set forth at the dedication council in Antioch, bringing it forward, to which our fathers themselves especially at that time ran together for the subject of the investigation; but since 'of one substance' and 'of like substance' have disturbed many in times past and up to now, but also up to the present it is said that the 'unlikeness' of the Son to the Father is being newly introduced by some, for this reason we reject 'of one substance' as foreign to the scriptures, and we anathematize 'unlikeness', and 3.299 we consider all who are of such a mind to be alien to the church. But we clearly confess the likeness of the Son to the Father, according to the apostle who says concerning the Son, "who is the image of the invisible God." We confess and believe in one God, Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. And we believe in our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, begotten from him impassibly before all ages, God the Word, only-begotten God from God, Light, Life, Truth, Wisdom, Power, through whom all things were made, things in heaven and things on earth, whether visible or invisible. We believe that he, at the consummation of the ages for the setting aside of sin, took on flesh from the holy virgin and became man, suffered for our sins and rose again and was taken up into heaven to sit at the right hand of the Father, coming again in glory to judge the living and the dead. And we believe in one Holy Spirit, whom our savior and Lord Jesus Christ also named Paraclete, having promised after his ascension to send this to the disciples, which he also sent, through whom he also sanctifies those in the church who believe and are baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. But those contrary to this
