Rom 1,2 Set apart and consecrated for the gospel, as the law calls that which is set apart from the sacrifices for God and for the priests a separation and a removal.
Rom 1,3-4 Therefore, having become son of man according to the flesh in the likeness of our birth, according to the spirit and power he is shown to be son of God in the second birth, that from the dead, so that we too, being made like him, might become sons of God, receiving the adoption in the redemption of the body, as
the apostle himself said. Ro+m 1,5-7 So that he might show that the Romans also, being of all the nations inhabiting the world, rightly receive the proclamation of his apostleship. Rom 1,8 Those who belong to him in a special way and above others call upon God, formerly the prophets, but now the apostles; and he shows that it is not possible to give thanks to God without Christ. And he rejoices, with an angelic disposition, that the faith of Christ has taken hold in Rome; for there is joy in heaven even over one sinner who repents, and he rejoices with his fellow apostle Peter who was so strong through grace.
Rom 1,11-12 The one who enlightens those who do not yet know, teaches; and the one who gladdens with the word of wisdom those who have already been enlightened, exhorts, as he himself says, making a distinction: "he who teaches, in teaching; he who exhorts, in exhortation." And when the Romans are exhorted, he says that he himself will be mutually exhorted, sharing in their exhortation through love, and at the same time as not being himself above the need of the benefit that comes from the word; for the word is an exhortation even to the one who speaks it. Through this he teaches the teachers not to be proud if they teach, but to know that they do not give of their own, even if they teach, and to be persuaded that they not only benefit but are also benefited; for the progress of the gospel is also the strengthening of those who preach it.
Rom 1,13 The fruit of those entrusted with the word is the benefit of the hearers; and the Lord says that he has appointed the apostles to bear much fruit. Indeed, a few men bore fruit for the whole church.
Rom 1,16-17 If, therefore, even in the greatest of cities, he says, it is necessary to be mocked by the foolish while preaching the saving cross, I will not refuse; for if the son of God bore the shame of the cross on our behalf, how is it not absurd for us to be ashamed of the Lord's suffering for us? And instead of the righteousness through works, which is not pure nor life-giving, he was bestowing life through faith. and the prophet has said: "from faith to faith." For if you believed Moses, he says, you would believe me. He teaches from how many evils the gospel and the faith through it delivers, and having gone through the evils both among the gentiles and among the Jews, after this, proceeding, he adds the argument concerning faith, teaching that the coming of Christ had become necessary. And so he discourses on the fall of the Jews, and finally he adds the exhortations; and he begins from the argument against the gentiles and says, that they fearlessly transgressed the law written in nature by the creator.
