Canon 96 (De haereticis)
OF THE SAME, CONCERNING HERETICS 96
Question. Whether one who by chance is found somewhere with heretics or with Greeks or Jews must eat with or greet them.
Response. The greeting, that is to say the common one, the Lord in no way
forbade, saying: "If you greet your friends only, what more are you doing? Do not also the gentiles do this?" But concerning eating with them, we have a command of the apostle as to those with whom one must refrain from this, saying: "I wrote to you in the letter not to associate 199 with fornicators, and not at all with the fornicators of this world, or the covetous or swindlers or idolaters, since then you would have to go out of this world; but now I have written to you, if anyone called a brother is a fornicator or covetous or an idolater or a reviler or a drunkard or a swindler, not to eat with such a person."
