De mensuribus et ponderibus (ap. Chronicon paschale) (excerptum Graecum 7)
Aquila was known, who was the father-in-law of the emperor Hadrian. He was a Greek, like Hadrian, hailing from Sinope in Pontus, but later he was baptized, having been persuaded by the apostles. He was also an astronomer, and being reproached for this by those of the Church, and not being persuaded, he afterwards renounced the things of the Christians, and became a proselyte to the Jews and was circumcised as a Jew, and having laboriously learned their dialect and letters, he interpreted for himself a translation not with right reason, but in order to distort some of the sayings.
In the time of the aforementioned consuls, a certain Theodotion of Pontus, from the succession of Marcion the heresiarch who also hailed from Sinope, being himself angry with his own heresy and turning to Judaism and having learned their letters and language, he also published his own version, for the most part agreeing with the seventy-two translators 92.652 In these times, a certain Symmachus, a Samaritan, one of their wise men, not being honored by his own nation, being sick with the love of power and being indignant against his own tribe, approaches the Jews and becomes a proselyte and is circumcised with a second circumcision. This man, therefore, interpreting for the distortion of the Samaritan versions, published the third translation.

De mensuribus et ponderibus (ap. Chronicon paschale) (excerptum Graecum 7)
