OF EPIPHANIUS CONCERNING THE 16 PROPHETS, FROM WHERE THEY WERE AND WHERE THEY DIED.
αʹ. Hosea, son of Beeri, was from Belemoth of the tribe of Issachar and having died was buried in his own land in peace. And he gave a sign 56 that the Lord would come upon the earth. If, he says, the oak in Silom is divided into 12 of its own accord and becomes 12 oaks.
βʹ. Amos was from Tekoa and was killed by the son of Amaziah, who struck him with a sword on the temple. And while still breathing he came to his own land and after 3 days he died and was buried there.
γʹ. Micah, son of Ieramos, the Morasthite, was from the tribe of Ephraim, and having done many things to Ahab he was killed by Joram his son by being thrown from a cliff, because he rebuked him for the impieties of his fathers and he was buried in his own land.
δʹ. Joel, son of Bathuel, was from the tribe of Reuben, from the field of Theboron and having died in peace was buried there.
εʹ. Obadiah was from the land of Shechem, the third captain of fifty whom Elijah spared; and he went down to Ahaziah. And after these things, leaving the service of the king, he prophesied; and having died he was buried with his fathers.
ςʹ. Jonah, son of Amittai, was from the land of Kariatharim near the city of Azotus by the sea; and having been cast out from the great fish and having gone to Nineveh, and having returned, he did not remain in his own land, but taking his mother he sojourned in Sour, a land of foreigners. For he said: Thus I will remove my reproach, that I prophesied falsely against Nineveh the city. And it was then that Elijah, rebuking 57 Ahab and calling a famine upon the land, fled. And coming he found the widow with her son; for he could not remain with the uncircumcised. And he blessed her, and when her son Jonah died, God raised him from the dead again through Elijah. For He wished to show him that he cannot flee from God. And after the famine, having come into the land of Judah in Saar, and having died, he was buried there. And he gave a sign concerning Jerusalem, saying: when they see a stone crying out piteously, the end is near; and when they see all the nations in Jerusalem, then the city will be razed to the ground.
ζʹ. Nahum, son of Elkesaios, was from Iesbe of the tribe of Simeon; and after Jonah he gave a sign to Nineveh, that it would be destroyed by waters and subterranean fire. Which also happened; for the lake surrounding it broke forth in an earthquake, and fire came out of the desert and burned its higher part. And having died he was buried in his own land.
ηʹ. Habakkuk was from the field of Bidzouchar, of the tribe of Simeon. And he saw before the captivity concerning the fall of Jerusalem, and mourned greatly; and when Nebuchadnezzar came to Jerusalem, he fled to Ostracine, and was a sojourner in the land of Ishmael. But when the Chaldeans turned back, and the remnants who were in Jerusalem went down to Egypt, he was dwelling in his own land and ministering to the reapers of his 58 people. And when he took the food to bring to the workers, he prophesied to his own people, saying: I am going to a distant land, and I will come quickly. But if I am delayed, take to the reapers their meal. And having been in Babylon and having given the meal to Daniel, he stood beside the reapers as they were eating, and he told no one what had happened. And he understood from this that the people would quickly return from Babylon. And two years before the return, having died, he was buried there in a field. And he gave a sign to those in Judea, that they would see a light in the temple, and thus they would see the glory of the temple. And

αʹ.
Καὶ
