In evangelium secundum Joannem (excerpta duo) (e cod. Vallicell. E 40) In Ioh. 8, 44 Of John the Grammarian: Just as Cain, consumed by envy, became the first perpetrator of murder, so also the Jews, driven by envy, desire to kill Christ. For here he called Cain a devil, whom he also named their father, as being a type of them. And he did not stand in the truth. For when asked by God: Where is Abel your brother? the wretch tells lies, thinking to rebuff the one who knows all things. In Ioh. 10, 18 Of Jo<hn> the Grammarian: This commandment I received from my Father, to have authority over my own sheep to lay down my life and to take it up again, because the Father loves me; but this is said necessarily in response to the unbelief of the Jews, who said he was opposed to God and not from him; and he reminds them that he is fulfilling that commandment, which the Father says to Moses: A prophet I will raise up for them from their brothers, like you, and I will put my word in his mouth, and he shall speak to them whatever I shall command him.

In evangelium secundum Joannem (excerpta duo) (e cod. Vallicell.
