Sermon 17 excerpts
91 (hgl.ζ. 5ff.) Concerning those who are impatient and do not have a foundation of faith, (hgl.ζ. 10ff.) that the choices of these are such: if (he says) I do not receive the grace of the spirit, I am unable to persevere, 92 (hgl.ζ. 2ff.) but if I receive it, then I will persevere. This one, even having received it, does not persevere, because he is not able to bear tribulations nobly, not having so prepared himself, (hgl.ζ. 19φ.) it being necessary to judge, that it is owed by me to serve my master with all goodwill 93 (hgl.ζ. 2) and, whether he gives to me or not, I do not forsake the race (hgl.ζ. 11ff.) considering this, that I am not worthy that even his name should be called upon me. (hgl.ζ. 18φ.) But even if he hands me over to Gehenna to be punished, I will not forsake him. 94 (hgl.ζ. 1φ.) As also Job: if you kill me, I will not forsake you and I will by no means depart from my innocence. Such a one (hgl.ζ. 6) will justly inherit life.
Sermo 17 excerpta
91 (hgl.ζ. 5ff.)
