But the executioners took the Lord of glory and nailed Him to the cross, crucifying Him indeed at the sixth hour, but having received the sentence of His condemnation at the third hour. After this they gave to Him vinegar to drink, mingled with gall. Then they divided His garments by lot. Ἐπιφωσκούσης δὲ τῆς μιᾶς σαββάτων, ἀναστὰς ἐκ νεκρῶν ἐπλήρωσεν ἐκεῖνα, ἃ καὶ πρὸ τοῦ πάθους ἡμῖν προέλεγεν φάσκων, ὅτι δεῖ τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ποιῆσαι ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ τῆς γῆς τρεῖς ἡμέρας καὶ τρεῖς νύκτας. Καὶ ἀναστὰς ἐκ νεκρῶν πρώτῃ μὲν φανεροῦται Μαρίᾳ τῇ Μαγδαληνῇ καὶ Μαρίᾳ τῇ Ἰακώβου, εἶτα καὶ Κλεόπᾳ ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ, καὶ μετὰ τοῦτο ἡμῖν τοῖς μαθηταῖς αὐτοῦ, φεύγουσιν μὲν διὰ τὸν φόβον τῶν Ἰουδαίων, λαθραίως δὲ περιεργαζομένοις τὰ κατ' αὐτόν. Ταῦτα δὲ καὶ ἐν τῷ Εὐαγγελίῳ ἀνεγράφη. Παρήγγειλεν οὖν ἡμῖν αὐτὸς νηστεύειν τὰς ἓξ ἡμέρας ταύτας διὰ τὴν τῶν Ἰουδαίων δυσσέβειαν καὶ παρανομίαν, πενθεῖν αὐτοὺς καὶ ὀδύρεσθαι παρακελευσάμενος ἐπὶ τῇ ἀπωλείᾳ αὐτῶν: καὶ γὰρ καὶ αὐτὸς αὐτοῖς ἐπεδάκρυσεν, ἀγνοήσασι τὸν καιρὸν τῆς ἐπισκοπῆς αὐτῶν: τετράδα δὲ καὶ παρασκευὴν προσέταξεν ἡμῖν νηστεύειν, τὴν μὲν διὰ τὴν προδοσίαν, τὴν δὲ διὰ τὸ πάθος: ἀπονηστεῦσαι δὲ προσέταξεν τῇ ἑβδόμῃ ἡμέρᾳ ἀλέκτορος φωνήσαντος, αὐτὸ δὲ νηστεῦσαι τὸ σάββατον, οὐχ ὅτι δεῖ τὸ σάββατον νηστεύειν, κατάπαυσιν δημιουργίας ὑπάρχον, ἀλλ' ὅτι ἐκεῖνο μόνον χρὴ νηστεύειν, τοῦ δημιουργοῦ ἐν αὐτῷ ἔτι ὑπὸ γῆν ὄντος. Ἐν αὐτῇ γὰρ αὐτῶν τῇ ἑορτῇ κατέσχον τὸν Κύριον. ὅπως πληρωθῇ ἐκεῖνο τὸ φάσκον λόγιον: «Ἔθεντο τὰ σημεῖα αὐτῶν ἐν μέσῳ τῆς ἑορτῆς αὐτῶν, καὶ οὐκ ἔγνωσαν.» Δεῖ οὖν πενθεῖν ὑπὲρ αὐτῶν, ὅτι ἐλθόντος τοῦ Κυρίου οὐκ ἐπίστευσαν αὐτῷ, ἀλλ' ἀπεσείσαντο τὴν διδασκαλίαν αὐτοῦ, ἀναξίους κρίναντες ἑαυτοὺς σωτηρίας.
