53. These things, then, shall be in the future, beloved; and when the three horns are cut off, he will begin to show himself as God, as Ezekiel has said aforetime: “Because thy heart has been lifted up, and thou hast said, I am God.”123 Ezek. xxviii. 2. And to the like effect Isaiah says: “For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of heaven: I will be like the Most High. Yet now thou shalt be brought down to hell (Hades), to the foundations of the earth.”124 Isa. xiv. 13–15. In like manner also Ezekiel: “Wilt thou yet say to those who slay thee, I am God? But thou (shalt be) a man, and no God.”125 Ezek. xxviii. 9.
[53] τούτων οὕτως ἐσομένων, ἀγαπητέ, καὶ τῶν τριῶν κεράτων ὑπ' αὐτοῦ ἐκκοπέντων, μετὰ ταῦτα ἄρξεται ὡς θεὸν ἑαυτὸν ἐπιδεικνύναι, ὡς προεῖπεν Ἐζεκιήλ: ”ἀνθ' ὧν ὑψώθη ἡ καρδία σου, καὶ εἶπας: θεός εἰμι ἐγώ.” καὶ Ἡσαΐας ὁμοίως: „σὺ δὲ εἶπας τῇ καρδίᾳ σου: εἰς τὸν οὐρανὸν ἀναβήσομαι, ἐπάνω τῶν ἄστρων τοῦ οὐρανοῦ θήσω τὸν θρόνον μου, ἔσομαι ὅμοιος τῷ ὑψίστῳ: νυνὶ δὲ εἰς ᾅδην καταβήσῃ καὶ εἰς τὰ θεμέλια τῆς γῆς.„ ὡσαύτως δὲ καὶ Ἐζεκιήλ: ”μὴ λέγων ἐρεῖς τοῖς ἀναιροῦσί σε ὅτι θεός εἰμι ἐγώ, σὺ δὲ εἶ ἄνθρωπος καὶ οὐ θεός.”
