These things, then, I have set shortly before thee, O Theophilus, drawing them from Scripture itself,172 [The immense value of these quotations, authenticating the Revelations and other Scriptures, must be apparent. Is not this treatise a voice to our own times of vast significance?] in order that, maintaining in faith what is written, and anticipating the things that are to be, thou mayest keep thyself void of offence both toward God and toward men, “looking for that blessed hope and appearing of our God and Saviour,”173 Tit. ii. 13. when, having raised the saints among us, He will rejoice with them, glorifying the Father. To Him be the glory unto the endless ages of the ages. Amen.
[67] Ταῦτά σοι διὰ βραχέων ἐξ ἀγάπης τῆς πρὸς τὸν κύριον ἀρυσάμενος ἐξ ἁγίων γραφῶν ὡς εὐόδμων, καὶ πλέξας στέφανον ἐπουράνιον προσφέρω σοί, ἀγαπητέ μου ἀδελφὲ Θεόφιλε, ὅπως φυλάσσων μετὰ πίστεως τὰ γεγραμμένα καὶ προβλέπων τὰ ἐσόμενα ἀπρόσκοπον ἑαυτὸν καὶ θεῷ καὶ ἀνθρώποις φυλάξῃς, „προσδεχόμενος τὴν μακαρίαν ἐλπίδα καὶ ἐπιφάνειαν τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ σωτῆρος ἡμῶν„, ἐν ᾗ ἀναστήσας τοὺς ἁγίους ἅμα σὺν αὐτοῖς εὐφρανθήσεται δοξάζων πατέρα, ᾧ ἡ δόξα εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας. ἀμήν.
