Γ. Ταῦτα δέ μου διεξιόντος μεταξὺ κατασείσασα τῇ χειρὶ ἡ διδάσκαλος
_ Γ. Τί οὖν ἂν εἴη, φημὶ, τὸ πῦρ, ἢ τὸ χάσμα, ἢ τὰ λοιπὰ τῶν εἰρημένων, ἢ μὴ ἃ λέγεται
Γ. Τί οὖν, εἶπον, ἐν τούτοις ἐστὶ τὸ δόγμα
_ Γ. Τί οὖν χρὴ λέγειν, εἶπον, πρὸς τοὺς μικροψύχως ταῖς συμβολαῖς διακειμένους
_ Μ. Τί οὖν, φησὶ, τούτων ἀμνημόνευτον ἐν τοῖς εἰρημένοις ἐστίν
_ Γ. Αὐτὸ, φημὶ, τὸ δόγμα τῆς ἀναστάσεως.
Μ. Καὶ μὴν πολλὰ, φησὶ, τῶν νῦν διεξοδικῶς εἰρημένων, πρὸς τοῦτον τὸν σκοπὸν φέρει.
Shame on such absurdity! said she, indignantly interrupting. A fine conclusion this narrow-minded, grovelling view of the world brings us to! If all that is not cognizable by sense is to be wiped out of existence, the all-embracing Power that presides over things is admitted by this same assertion not to be; once a man has been told about the non-material and invisible nature of the Deity, he must perforce with such a premise reckon it as absolutely non-existent. If, on the other hand, the absence of such characteristics in His case does not constitute any limitation of His existence, how can the Mind of man be squeezed out of existence along with this withdrawal one by one of each property of matter?
Μ. Ἡ δὲ σχετλιάσασα μεταξὺ τοῦ λόγου, Φεῦ τῆς ἀτοπίας, φησὶν, εἰς οἷον καταστρέφει πέρας ἡ μικροφυὴς αὕτη καὶ χαμαίζηλος περὶ τῶν ὄντων κρίσις! Εἰ γὰρ ἐξῄρηται τοῦ ὄντος ἅπαν ὃ μὴ τῇ αἰσθήσει γνωρίζεται, οὐδ' ἂν αὐτὴν τὴν τοῦ παντὸς ἐπιστατοῦσαν καὶ περιδεδραγμένην τῶν ὄντων δύναμιν ὁμολογοίη πάντως ὁ τοῦτο λέγων, ἀλλὰ τὸ ἀσώματόν τε καὶ ἀειδὲς περὶ τῆς θείας φύσεως διδαχθεὶς, τὸ μὴ εἶναι αὐτὴν ὅλως ἐκ τῆς τοιαύτης πάντως ἀκολουθίας λογίζεται. Εἰ δὲ ἐκεῖ τὸ ταῦτα μὴ εἶναι περιγραφὴ τοῦ εἶναι οὐ γίνεται, πῶς ὁ ἀνθρώπινος νοῦς τοῦ ὄντος ἐκθλίβεται τῇ ἀφαιρέσει τῶν σωματικῶν ἰδιωμάτων συνδαπανώμενος;
