Section XXX.
[1] 1980 Luke xiv. 7.And he spake a parable unto those which were bidden there, because he saw [2] them choose the places that were in the highest part of the sitting room: 1981 Luke xiv. 8.When a man invites thee to a feast, do not go and sit at the head of the room; lest there [3] be there a man more honourable than thou, 1982 Luke xiv. 9.and he that invited you come and say unto thee, Give the place to this man: and thou be ashamed when thou risest and [4] takest1983 Lit. at thy rising and taking. another place. 1984 Luke xiv. 10.But when thou art invited, go and sit last; so that when he that invited thee cometh, he may say unto thee, My friend, go up higher: and [5] thou shalt have praise before all that were invited with thee. 1985 Luke xiv. 11.For every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and every one that abaseth himself shall be exalted.
[6] 1986 Luke xiv. 12.And he said also to him that had invited him, When thou makest a feast1987 Practically synonymous words. or a banquet,1988 Practically synonymous words. do not invite thy friends, nor even thy brethren, nor thy kinsmen, nor thy [7] rich neighbours; lest haply they also invite thee, and thou have this reward. 1989 Luke xiv. 13.But when thou makest a feast, invite the poor, and those with withered hand, and the [8] lame, and the blind: 1990 Luke xiv. 14.and blessed art thou, since they have not the means to reward [9] thee; that thy reward may be at the rising of the righteous. 1991 Luke xiv. 15.And when one of them that were invited heard that, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.
[10, 11] 1992 Matt. xxii. 1; Matt. xxii. 2.Jesus answered again in parables, and said, 1993 Luke xiv. 16b.The kingdom of heaven hath been likened [Arabic, p. 115] to1994 Borg. ms., is like. a certain king, which made a feast1995 Used specially of a marriage feast. for his son, and prepared a [12] great banquet,1996 Lit. bread, the Syriac word for which (not that in the versions) means also feast. and invited many: and he sent his servants at the time of the feast to inform them that were invited, 1997 Luke xiv. 17; Matt. xxii. 3b.Everything is made ready for you; come. And [13] they would not come, but began all of them with one voice to make excuse. 1998 Luke xiv. 18.And the first said unto them, Say to him, I have bought a field, and I must needs go out [14] to see it: 1999 Luke xiv. 19.I pray thee to release2000 Or, omit. me, for I ask to be excused. And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to examine them: I pray thee [15] to release me, for I ask to be excused. 2001 Luke xiv. 20.And another said, I have married a wife, [16] and therefore I cannot come. 2002 Matt. xxii. 4.And the king sent also other servants, and said, Say to those that were invited, that my feast is ready, and my oxen and my fatlings are [17] slain, and everything is ready: come to the feast. 2003 Matt. xxii. 5.But they made light of it, and [18] went, one to his field, and another to his merchandise: 2004 Matt. xxii. 6.and the rest took his [19] servants, and entreated them shamefully, and killed them. 2005 Luke xiv. 21a.And one of the servants [20] came, and informed his lord of what had happened. 2006 Matt. xxii. 7.And when the king heard, he became angry, and sent his armies; and they destroyed those murderers, and [21] burned their cities. 2007 Matt. xxii. 8.Then he said to his servants, The feast is prepared, but those [22] that were invited were not worthy. 2008 Luke xiv. 21c.Go out quickly into the markets and into the partings of the ways of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and those with pains, and the lame, and the blind. And the servants did as the king commanded them. [23] 2009 Luke xiv. 22.And they came, and said unto him, Our lord, we have done all that thou commandedst [24] us, and there is here still room. 2010 Luke xiv. 23a; Matt. xxii. 9b.So the lord said unto his servants, Go out into the roads, and the ways, and the paths, and every one that ye find, invite [25] [Arabic, p. 116] to the feast, and constrain them to enter, till my house is2011 Or, that my house may be. filled. 2012 Luke xiv. 23b; Luke xiv. 24.I say unto you, that no one of those people that were invited shall taste of my feast. [26] 2013 Matt. xxii. 10.And those servants went out into the roads, and gathered all that they found, good and [27] bad: and the banquet-house was filled with guests. 2014 Matt. xxii. 11.And the king entered to see those [28] who were seated, and he saw there a man not wearing a festive garment: 2015 Matt. xxii. 12.and he said unto him, My friend, how didst thou come in here not having on festive garments? [29] 2016 Matt. xxii. 13.And he was silent. Then the king said to the servants, Bind his hands and his feet, and put him forth into the outer darkness; there shall be weeping and [30] gnashing of teeth. 2017 Matt. xxii. 14.The called are many; and the chosen, few.
[31] 2018 John v. 1a.And after that, the time of the feast of unleavened bread of the Jews arrived, [32] and Jesus went out to go to Jerusalem. 2019 Luke xvii. 11; Luke xvii. 12.And as he went in the way, there met him [33] ten persons who were lepers, and stood afar off: 2020 Luke xvii. 13.and they lifted up their voice, and [34] said, Our Master, Jesus, have mercy upon us. 2021 Luke xvii. 14.And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go and shew yourselves unto the priests. And when they went, they [35] were cleansed. 2022 Luke xvii. 15.And one of them, when he saw himself cleansed, returned, and [36] was praising God with a loud voice; 2023 Luke xvii. 16.and he fell on his face before the feet of [37] Jesus, giving him thanks: and this man was a Samaritan. 2024 Luke xvii. 17.Jesus answered and said, [38] Were not those that were cleansed ten? where then are the nine? 2025 Luke xvii. 18.Not one of them turned aside to come and praise God, but this man who is of a strange [39] people. 2026 Luke xvii. 19.He said unto him, Arise, and go thy way; for thy faith hath given thee life.2027 Or, saved thee.
[40] 2028 Mark x. 32.And while they were going up in the way to Jerusalem, Jesus went in front of them; and they wondered, and followed him fearing. And he took his twelve disciples apart, [41] and began to tell them privately2029 Lit. between himself and them. what was about to befall him. 2030 Luke xviii. 31b.And he said unto [Arabic, p. 117] them, We are going up to Jerusalem, and all the things shall be fulfilled [42] that are written in the prophets concerning the Son of man. 2031 Mark x. 33b.He shall be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, [43] and deliver him to the peoples;2032 i.e., Gentiles. 2033 Mark x. 34a.and they shall treat him shamefully, and scourge [44] him, and spit in his face, and humble him,2034 An obscure expression; perhaps it was originally a repetition of the preceding clause. It might be emended into point at him (the finger of scorn).and crucify him, and slay him: 2035 Luke xviii. 33.and on [45] the third day he shall rise. 2036 Luke xviii. 34.But they understood not one thing of this; but this word was hidden from them, and they did not perceive these things that were addressed to them.
[46] 2037 Matt. xx. 20.Then came near to him the mother of the (two) sons of Zebedee, she and her (two) sons, and worshipped him, and asked of him a certain thing. 2038 Matt. xx. 21a.And he said [47] unto her, What wouldest thou? 2039 Mark x. 35.And James and John, her two sons, came forward, and said unto him, Teacher, we would that all that we ask thou wouldest [48] do unto us. 2040 Mark x. 36.He said unto them,2041 Lit. of course the two of them, and so all through the conversation. What would ye that I should do unto you? [49] 2042 Mark x. 37.They said unto him, Grant us that we may sit, the one on thy right, and the other [50] on thy left, in thy kingdom and thy glory. 2043 Mark x. 38.And Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink the cup that I am to drink? and with the [51] baptism that I am to be baptized with, will ye be baptized? 2044 Mark x. 39.And they said unto him, We are able. Jesus said unto them, The cup that I drink ye shall drink; and [52] with the baptism wherewith I am baptized ye shall be baptized: 2045 Mark x. 40.but that ye should sit on my right and on my left is not mine to give; but it is for him for whom my Father hath prepared it.

7. Et proposuit illic invitatis parabolam, quia viderat, eos primos accubitos elegisse :
8. Cum quis te invitat ad convivium, non eas discumbere in primo loco consessus, ne forte honoratior te sit ibi,
9. et veniens ille, qui vos vocavit, dicat tibi : Da huic locum; et rubore afficieris coram adstantibus, et excipiet te locus alter.
10. Sed cum vocatus fueris, vade, recumbe ultimus, ut, cum venerit qui te invitavit, dicat tibi : Amice, ascende superius; et erit tibi gloria coram simul discumbentibus :
11. quia omnis, qui se exaltat, humiliabitur, et omnis, qui se humiliat, exaltabitur.
12. Dixit et ei, qui ipsum invitaverat: Cum facis cenam aut prandium, noli vocare amicos tuos, neque fratres tuos, neque cognatos tuos, neque vicinos divites, ne forte te et ipsi invitent, et fiat tibi retributio.
13. Sed cum facis convivium, voca pauperes, debiles, claudos et caecos,
14. et beatus eris, quia non habent, unde retribuant tibi, ut fiat retributio tua in resurrectione iustorum.
15. Haec cum audisset unus ex invitatis, dixit illi: Beatus, qui manducabit panem in regno Dei.
Matth. XXII, 1. Respondens iterum Iesus in parabolis, dixit:
2. Simile factum est regnum caelorum homini regi, qui fecit nuptias filio suo;
Luc. XIV, 16b. et paravit convivium magnum, et vocavit multos.
17. Et misit servos suos hora convivii significare invitatis: Quia omnia parata sunt vobis, venite:
Matth. XXII, 3b. et noluerunt venire.
Luc. XIV, 18. Sed coeperunt omnes uno ore se excusare. Primus ait illis: Dicite ei, villam emi, et compellor exire ad illam videndam: rogo te, dimitte me, excusatus sum enim.
19. Et alter dixit: Iuga boum emi quinque, et eo observare illa: rogo te, ut dimittas me, excusatus sum enim.
20. Et alius dixit: Uxorem duxi, et ideo non possum venire.
Matth. XXII, 4. Iterum rex misit alios servos, dicens: Dicite invitatis: Prandium meum paratum est, tauri mei et vituli mei occisi sunt, et omnia parata*, venite ad convivium.
5. Illi autem neglexerunt, et abierunt, alius in villam suam, et alius ad negotiationem suam;
6. reliqui vero tenuerunt servos eius, et contumeliis affectos occiderunt.
Luc. XIV, 21a. Et veniens unus servorum, nuntiavit domino suo id, quod acciderat.
Matth. XXII, 7. Rex autem, cum audisset, iratus est, et missis exercitibus suis, perdiderunt homicidas illos, et civitates eorum succenderunt.
8. Tunc ait servis suis: Convivium paratum est, et qui invitati erant, non fuerunt digni:
Luc. XIV, 21b. egredimini cito in plateas et vicos civitatis, et pauperes ac infirmos, et claudos et caecos introducite huc. Et fecerunt servi sicut rex praeceperat ipsis.
22. Et venerunt, et dixerunt ei : Domine, fecimus quaecumque imperasti, et adhuc spatium est hic.
23a. Et ait dominus servis suis: Egredimini in vias et semitas et ampliores vias,
Matth. XXII, 9b. et quoscumque inveneritis, vocate ad convivium,
Luc. XIV, 23b. et compellite intrare, ut impleatur domus mea.
24. Dico vobis: Quod nemo virorum illorum, qui vocati sunt, gustabit ex prandio meo.
Matth. XXII, 10. Et egressi servi in vias, congregaverunt omnes, quos invenerunt, bonos et malos; et impleta est domus convivii discumbentibus.
11. Ingressus autem rex, ut videret discumbentes, vidit ibi hominem non vestitum veste nuptiali.
12. Et ait illi: Amice, quomodo huc intrasti non habens vestem nuptialem ? Et obmutuit.
13. Tunc dixit rex ministris: Ligate manus et pedes eius, et eiicite eum in tenebras exteriores: ibi erit fletus et stridor dentium.
14. Multi sunt vocati, et pauci electi.
Ioan. V, 1. Post haec erat festum azymorum Iudaeorum;
Luc. XVII, 11. et egressus est Iesus, ut iret in Ierusalem.
12. Et cum iter faceret, occurrerunt ei decem viri leprosi, qui steterunt a longe,
13. et levaverunt vocem suam dicentes: Iesu praeceptor, miserere nostri.
14. Quos ut vidit, dixit iliis: Ite, et ostendite vos sacerdotibus. Et dum irent, mundati sunt.
15. Unus autem ex illis, ut vidit se mundatum, regressus est, et magna voce magnificabat Deum;
16. et cecidit in faciem suam ante pedes Iesu, gratias illi agens; et hic erat Samaritanus.
17. Respondit Iesus, et dixit: Nonne decem mundati sunt? et novem ubi sunt?
18. Neque unus eorum declinavit, ut veniret, et daret gloriam Deo, nisi hic alienigena.
19. Ait illi: Surge, vade, fides tua te salvum fecit.
Marc. X, 32. Et cum essent in via ascendentes Ierosolymam, praecedebat illos Iesus: et stupebant, et sequebantur eum timidi. Et assumens duodecim discipulos suos seorsum, coepit illis manifestare inter se et ipsos, quae essent ei eventura.
Luc. XVIII, 31b. Ait enim illis: Nos ascendimus Ierosolymam, et consummabuntur omnia, quae scripta sunt in Prophetis de Filio hominis.

Matth. XX, 20. Tunc accessit ad eum mater filiorum Zebedaei, ipsa et ambo filii eius, et adoravit eum ac petiit aliquid ab eo.
21a. Dixit ei: Quid vis?
Marc. X, 35. Et accesserunt ad eum Iacobus et Ioannes, filii illius, et dixerunt ei: Magister, volumus, ut quodcumque petierimus, facias nobis.
36. Ait illis: Quid vultis, ut faciam vobis ?
37. Dixerunt ei: Da nobis, ut unus a dexteris, et alius a sinistris tuis sedeat in regno et gloria tua.
38. Iesus autem ait eis: Nescitis quid petatis: potestis bibere calicem, quem ego bibiturus sum, et baptismo, quo ego baptizandus sum, baptizari ?
39. Dixerunt ei: Possumus. Ait illis Iesus: Calicem, quem ego bibiturus sum, bibetis, et baptismo, quo ego baptizandus sum, baptizabimini:
40. ut sedeatis autem a dexteris et a sinistris meis, non est meum dare, sed quibus paravit Pater meus.
