And to proclaim forgiveness to the evil-doers,349    Evil-doers could easily be an Arabic copyist’s corruption of captives; but the word used here for forgiveness could hardly spring from an Arabic release (in Ibn-at-Tayyib’s Commentary, where the thing seems to have happened, a different word is used).  In Syriac, however, they are the same; while the first pair contain the same consonants. and sight to the blind,

3. quarum una erat Simonis Cephae, et in eam ascendit Iesus, et sedit, atque praecepit, ut a terra ducerent pusillum in aquam. Et sedens docebat de navicula turbas.

4. Ut cessavit autem loqui, dixit ad Simonem: Ducite in altum, et laxate retia vestra in capturam.

5. Respondit Simon, et dixit illi: Praeceptor, per totam noctem laboravimus, et

nihil cepimus: in verbo autem tuo laxabo rete.

6. Et cum hoc fecissent, concluserunt piscium multitudinem copiosam; prope enim erat rete eorum ut rumperetur.
