ANNOTATION OF THE INQUIRY THAT TOOK PLACE for the sake of the matters raised concerning the ecclesiastical dogmas, in the presence of Gregory the most pious patrician, and of the most holy bishops who were present with him, and of the other God-loving and glorious men, between Pyrrhus, who became patriarch of Constantinople, and Maximus the most devout monk, in the month of July, of the 3rd indiction. Pyrrhus indeed was defending the innovation introduced by himself and his predecessor in Byzantium; that is, of one will; while Maximus was advocating for the patristic and apostolic teaching that had come down to us from above; through the aforementioned extraordinary man, I mean Gregory the most honorable patrician, the said men, that is Pyrrhus and Maximus, having been brought face to face with each other.
