μα´. Christ is the Savior of soul and body; he who follows in His footsteps is freed from evil.
μβ´. If you wish to attain salvation, renounce pleasures; and take up self-control, and love, and prayer.
μγ´. The property of dispassion is true discernment, according to which do all things with measure and rule. μδ´. Our Lord and God is Jesus the Christ; and the mind that follows him,
let it not remain in darkness. με´. Gather your mind, and watch your thoughts, and those which you find impassioned,
wage war against them. μστ´. There are three things through which you receive thoughts: sensation, and memory, and the temperament of the body; but these are more difficult when they come from memory. μζ´. To whom wisdom was given, he knew the principles of incorporeal beings, and what the beginning is, and what the end
of the world. μη´. Do not neglect the active life, and your mind will be illumined. "Treasures," he says,
hidden and unseen I will open to you. " μθ´. He found grace with God, who was freed from passions, and the great mercy he of knowledge
deemed worthy. ν´. The mind, freed from passions, becomes filled with light, being unceasingly illumined by the contemplations of created things.
να´. Knowledge is the light of the soul; deprived of it, the fool journeys in darkness. νβ´. He is a fool who lives in darkness, whom the darkness of ignorance follows. νγ´. He who loves Jesus will be freed from evil; and he who follows him will see
true knowledge. νδ´. A mind freed from passions sees thoughts purely, both when the body is awake
and during its sleep. (1433) νε´. The mind, purified to the highest degree, is constrained by beings, and wishes outside
to be of all created things. νστ´. Blessed is he who has reached the boundless infinity; and he has reached it who has passed beyond the
finite things. νζ´. He who reveres God searches the words of God; but the lover of truth
finds them. νη´. A mind moved by uprightness finds truth; but one moved by some passion,
will fail to attain it. νθ´. Just as God is unknowable in essence, so also is he boundless in greatness. ξ´. Of whose essence there is no beginning and end, nor a discovery of his wisdom. ξα´. The salvation of all creation is the exceedingly good providence of the Creator concerning it.
ξβ´. The Lord supports all who are falling in His compassions, and raises up
all who are broken down. ξγ´. Christ is judge of the living and the dead, and the just rewarder of each one's deeds.
ξδ´. If you wish to rule soul and body, first cut off the causes of the passions.
ξε´. Yoke the powers of the soul to the virtues, and they are unyoked from every impulse of the passions.

μβ´. Σωτηρίας εἰ θέλεις τυχεῖν, ἀπόταξαι ταῖς ἡδοναῖς· καί ἐγκράτειαν, καί ἀγάπην, καί προσευχήν ἀναλαβοῦ.
μγ´. Ἴδιον ἀπαθείας, διάκρισις ἀληθινή· καθ᾿ ἥν πάντα πρᾶττε μέτρῳ καί κανόνι. μδ´. Ὁ Κύριος ἡμῶν καί Θεός Ἰησοῦς ἐστιν ὁ Χριστός· καί νοῦς ὁ ἀκολουθῶν αὐτῷ,
μή μείνῃ ἐν τῇ σκοτίᾳ. με´. Συνάγαγε τόν νοῦν σου, καί τήρει τούς λογισμούς, καί οὕς εὕρῃς ἐμπαθεῖς,
πολέμησον πρός αὐτούς. μστ´. Τρία ὑπάρχουσι πράγματα, δι᾿ ὧν λαμβάνεις λογισμούς· ἡ αἴσθησις, καί ἡ
μνήμη, καί ἡ κρᾶσις τοῦ σώματος· χαλεπώτεροι δέ οἱ αὐτοί ἀπό τῆς μνήμης εἰσίν. μζ´. Ὧ ἐδόθη σοφία, ἔγνω λόγους ἀσωμάτων, καί τίς ἡ ἀρχή ὑπάρχει, καί τί τό τέλος
τοῦ κόσμου. μη´. Μή ἀμέλει πρακτικῆς, καί φωτισθήσεται ὁ νοῦς σου. " Θησαυρούς, φησίν,
ἀποκρύφους καί ἀοράτους ἀνοίξω σοι. " μθ´. Εὗρε χάριν παρά Θεῷ, ὁ παθῶν ἐλευθερωθείς, καί τό μέγα ἔλεος ὁ γνώσεως
καταξιωθείς. ν´. Νοῦς παθών ἐλευθερωθείς, φωτοειδής γίνεται, ταῖς τῶν ὄντων θεωρίαις
ἀδιαλείπτως καταλαμπόμενος. να´. Φέγγος ψυχῆς ἡ γνῶσίς ἐστιν, ἧς στερηθείς ὁ ἄφρων ἐν σκότει διαπορεύεται. νβ´. Ἄφρων ἐστίν ὁ ἐν σκότει διάγων· ὅν διαδέχεται τό σκότος ἀγνωσίας. νγ´. Ἰησοῦν ὁ ἀγαπῶν, ἐλευθερωθήσεται κακίας· καί ὁ ἀκολουθῶν αὐτῷ ὄψεται
γνῶσιν ἀληθῆ. νδ´. Νοῦς παθῶν ἐλευθερωθείς, ψιλά βλέπει τά νοήματα, καί ἐγρηγορότος τοῦ
σώματος, καί κατά τούς ὕπνους αὐτοῦ. (1433) νε´. Ὁ νοῦς εἰς ἄκρον καθαρθείς στενοχωρεῖται τοῖς οὖσι· καί ἔξω θέλει
γίνεσθαι πάντων τῶν γεγονότων. νστ´. Μακάριος ὁ φθάσας εἰς τήν ἀπέραντον ἀπειρίαν· ἐκεῖνος δ᾿ ἔφθασεν, ὁ τά
πεπερασμένα περάσας. νζ´. Ἐρευνᾷ λόγους Θεοῦ ὁ σεβόμενος αὐτόν· εὑρίσκει δέ αυτούς ὁ τῆς ἀληθείας
ἐραστής. νη´. Νοῦς ἐξ ὀρθότητος κινούμενος, εὑρίσκει ἀλήθειαν· ὁ δέ ἐκ πάθους τινός,
ἀποτεύξεται αὐτῆς. νθ´. Ὥσπερ τῇ οὐσίᾳ ἄνωστος ὁ Θεός, οὕτως καί τῇ μεγαλοσύνῃ ἐστίν ἀπέραντος. ξ´. Ἧς οὐσίας ἀρχή καί τέλος οὐκ ἔστιν, οὔτε τῆς σοφίας ἐξεύρεσις. ξα´. Σωτηρία ὑπάρχει πάσης κτίσεως, ἡ ὑπεράγαθος τοῦ Κτίσαντος περί αυτήν
πρόνοια. ξβ´. Ὑποστηρίζει Κύριος πάντας τούς καταπίπτοντας ἐν οἰκτιρμοῖς, καί ἀνορθοῖ
πάντας τούς κατεῤῥαγμένους. ξγ´. Χριστός ἐστι ζώντων καί νεκρῶν κριτής, καί τῆς ἑκάστου πράξεως δίκαιος
ἀνταποδότης. ξδ´. Ἆρξαι εἰ θέλεις τῆς ψυχῆς καί τοῦ σώματος, προλαβών τάς τῶν παθῶν αἰτίας
περίκοπτε. ξε´. Σύζευξον ταῖς ἀρεταῖς τάς τῆς ψυχῆς δινάμεις, καί πάσης τῆς τῶν παθῶν ὁρμῆς
ἀποζεύγνυνται.
