66. Bridle the impulses of desire with self-control; but those of anger, with spiritual love.
67. Stillness and prayer are the greatest weapons of virtue; for these, purifying the mind, render it discerning.
68. Only spiritual conversation is beneficial; and stillness is preferable to all the rest.
69. Of the five kinds of conversation, choose the three; but do not frequent the fourth; stand apart from the fifth.
70. He who is not passionate towards the things of the world loves stillness. And he loves all people, who loves nothing human.
71. The conscience is a true teacher, to which he who hearkens remains without stumbling. 72. Only those does conscience not judge, who have reached the height of virtue or of
wickedness. 73. The height of dispassion makes thoughts bare; but the height of knowledge presents to the supremely unknowable
one. 74. Blameworthy grief is the failure to obtain pleasures, which he who has despised, remains without grief. 75. Grief in general is the privation of pleasure, whether that according to God, or that according to
the world you understand. 76. The kingdom of God is goodness and wisdom, which he who attains, in the heavens
lives as a citizen. 77. That man is wretched, who the body over the soul, and the world over God
has preferred by his works. (1436) 78. He possesses equal love for all who the virtuous does not
envy, but pities the wicked. 79. He truly ought to rule, who for both soul and body the things of virtue
has legislated. 80. He is a spiritual merchant, who equally for the sake of things to come both of the
pleasant things of life and of the austere has renounced. 81. Love and self-control strengthen the soul; but pure prayer, and
spiritual contemplation, the mind. 82. An evil disposition thinks evil things, and the achievements of a neighbor as less
misjudges. 84. Do not trust the thought that judges your neighbor, because having an evil treasure,
it also reasons evil things. 85. A good heart brings forth good thoughts; for according to his treasure, also are the
thoughts of his. 86. Guard your thoughts, and flee from wickedness; lest the mind, being darkened, one thing
see in place of another. 87. Consider the Jews, and secure yourself. Those who from envy
were blinded, mistook the Lord and God for Beelzebul. 88. Evil suspicion darkens the intellect, and makes it see, the things beside the way, instead of the way
to behold. 89. Vices are fixed alongside all the virtues; and because of this the virtues the
wicked misinterpret as vices.

ξη´. Συντυχία ὠφελεῖ μόνη ἡ πνευματική· τῶν δέ λοιπῶν πασῶν προτιμωτέρα ἡσυχία.
ξθ´. Τῶν πέντε τρόπων συντυχίας, τούς τρεῖς ἐπίλεξαι· τῷ δέ τετάρτῳ μή συχνάσῃς· τοῦ πέμπτου ἀπόστηθι.
ο´. Ἡσυχίαν ἀγαπᾷ ὁ μή πάσχων πρός τά τοῦ κόσμου. Καί πάντας τούς ἀνθρώπους, ὁ μηδέν ἀγαπῶν ἀνθρώπινον.
οα´. ∆ισάσκαλος ἀληθής ἡ συνείδησις ὑπάρχει, ᾗ ὁ ὑπακούων ἀπρόσκοπος διαμένει. οβ´. Ἐκείνους μόνους οὐ κρίνει τό συνειδός, τούς εἰς τό ἄκρον τῆς ἀρετῆς ἤ τῆς
κακίας φθάσαντας. ογ´. Ἄκρα ἀπάθεια ψιλά ποιεῖ τά νοήματα· ἄκρα δέ γνῶσις τῷ ὑπεραγνώστῳ
παρίστησιν. οδ´. Λύπη ἐστίν ψεκτή ἀποτυχία ἡδονῶν, ὧν ὁ καταφρονήσας, ἄλυπος διαμένει. δε´. Ἡ λύπη καθόλου στέρησίς ἐστιν ἡδονῆς, κἄν τε τῆς κατά Θεόν, κἄν τῆς κατά
κόσμον νοήσῃς. δστ´. Θεοῦ ἐστι βασιλεία, ἀγαθότης καί σοφία, ὧν ὁ ἐπιτυχών, ἐν οὐρανοῖς
πολιτεύεται. οζ´. Ἐκεῖνος ἄθλιος ἄνθρωπος, ὁ τῆς ψυχῆς μέν τό σῶμα, τοῦ Θεοῦ δέ τόν κόσμον
τοῖς ἔργοις προτιμήσας. (1436) οη´. Ἴσην τήν ἀγάπην πρός πάντας κέκτηται ὁ τοῖς μέν σπουδαίοις μή
φθονῶν, τούς δέ φαύλους ἐλεῶν. οθ´. Ἆρξαι ὡς ἀληθῶς ἐκεῖνος ὤφειλεν, ὁ καί ψυχῇ καί σώματι τά τῆς ἀρετῆς
νομοθετήσας. π´. Πραγματευτής πνευματικός ἐκεῖνος ὑπάρχει, ὁ ἐξ ἴσου διά τά μέλλοντα καί τῶν
ἡδέων τοῦ βίου καί τῶν αὐστειρῶν ἀποταξάμενος. πα´.Ῥώννυσι ψυχήν μέν, ἀγάπη καί ἐγκράτεια· νοῦν δέ προσευχή καθαρά, καί
θεωρία πνευματική. πβ´. Γνώμη πονηρά κακά ἐνθυμεῖται, καί τά κατορθώματα τοῦ πλησίον εἰς ἐλάττονα
παραγνωρίζει. πδ´. Μή πίστευε τῷ λογισμῷ κρίνοντι τόν πλησίον, ὅτι πονηρόν ἔχων θησαυρόν,
πονηρά καί λογίζεται. πε´. Ἀγαθή καρδία ἀγαθάς ἐννοίας φέρει· πρός γάρ τόν θησαυρόν αὐτοῦ, καί τά
ἐνθυμήματα αὐτοῦ. πστ´. Τήρει τούς λογισμούς, καί φεῦγε ἀπό κακίας· ἵνα μή σκοτισθείς ὁ νοῦς ἄλλα
ἀντ᾿ ἄλλων βλέπῃ. πζ´. Ἐννόει τούς Ἰουδαίους, καί ἀσφάλισαι σεαυτόν. Οἱ ἐκ τοῦ φθόνου
τυφλωθέντες, τόν Κύριον καί Θεόν εἰς Βεελζεβούλ παρεγνώρισαν. πη´. Ὑπόνοια πονηρά σκοτίζει διάνοιαν, καί ποιεῖ, τά παρά τήν ὁδόν, ἀντί τῆς ὁδοῦ
θεωρεῖν. πθ´. Ταῖς ἀρεταῖς ἁπάσαις παραπεπήγασιν αἱ κακίαι· καί διά τοῦτο τάς ἀρετάς οἱ
πονηροί εἰς κακίας παραγνωρίζουσι.
