Four Unattributed. The mind that lingers in pleasure or pain very quickly falls into the passion of acedia.
Four Unattributed, 1. A pure conscience awakens the soul, but a defiled thought drags it down to the underworld.
Four Unattributed, 2. When the passions are stirred, they drive out vainglory; but when they are destroyed, they bring it back again.
Four Unattributed, 3. If you wish to be delivered from all the passions at once, take up self-control and love and prayer.
Four Unattributed, 4. The mind, through prayer, dwelling in God, also frees the passionate part of the soul from the passions.
Four Unattributed, 5. God, having given being to all that exists, also at the same time bound all things together by His providence.
Four Unattributed, 6. And being Master, and having become a slave, He manifested the height of providence to the creation.
Four Unattributed, 7. God the Word, unchangeably incarnate, was united to all creation through the flesh.
Four Unattributed, 8. A strange wonder in heaven and on earth, that God is on earth, and man is in the heavens; so that having joined men to angels, He might grant deification to all creation together.

100. Forgiveness of sins is freedom from the passions, from which he who has not yet been delivered by grace, has not yet obtained forgiveness.
SECOND CENTURY. Of which the acrostic is this: Pray for me, most honored brother, for I expect great evils worthy of my
choice, griefs to the soul, and pains to the body. 1. Do you wish to be delivered from evils all at once? self-love, the mother of evils
renounce. 2. The health of the soul is dispassion and knowledge, which it is impossible for one who is a slave to pleasures to attain. 3. It dries up the pleasures, both of the body and of the soul, self-control with patience,
and love with long-suffering. 4. The beginning of evils for the soul has become self-love; and self-love is the [love] of the body
love. 5. It is proper to the rational to be subject to reason, and to discipline, and to bring into subjection
the body. 6. It is an outrage for the rational to be subject to the irrational, and to make provision for it for
shameful desires. 7. It is an evil work of a rational soul, to forsake the Creator, and to serve the
body.

Τέσσαρα ἀνοικτό.´ Ἡδονῇ ἤ λύπῃ ἐγχρονίζων ὁ νοῦς, τῷ τῆς ἀκηδίας πάθει τάχιστα περιπίπτει.
Τέσσ. ἀνοικτό α´. Συνείδησις καθαρά διεγείρει ψυχήν, λογισμός δέ ῥυπαρός καταχθονίζει αὐτήν.
Τέσσ. ἀνοικ. β´. Κινούμενα τά πάθη ἀπελαύνουσι κενοδοξίαν· ἀναιρούμενα δέ, πάλιν αὐτήν ὑποστρέφουσιν.
Τέσσ. ἀνοικ. γ´. Εἰ πάντων ὁμοῦ τῶν παθῶν ἀπαλλαγῆναι θέλεις, ἐγκράτειαν καί ἀγάπην καί προσευχήν ἀνάλαβε.
Τέσσ. ἀνοικ. δ´. Νοῦς διά προσευχῆς τῷ Θεῷ ἐγχρονίζων, καί τό παθητικόν τῆς ψυχῆς τῶν παθῶν ἀπαλλάττει.
Τέσσ. ἀνοικ. ε´. Ὁ Θεός τό εἶναι τοῖς οὖσι δεδωκώς, καί τῇ προνοίᾳ αὐτοῦ ἅμα τά πάντα συνέδησεν.
Τέσσ. ἀνοικ. στ´. ∆εσπότης δέ ὑπάρχων, καί δοῦλος γενόμενος, τό ἄκρον τῆς προνοίας τῇ κτίσει ἐξέφηνεν.
Τέσσ. ἀνοικ. ζ´. Ὁ Θεός καί Λόγος ἀτρέπτως σαρκωθείς, πάσῃ τῇ κτίσει διά τῆς σαρκός ἡνώθη.
Τέσσ. ἀνοικ. η´. Ξένον θαῦμα ἐν οὐρανῷ καί ἐπί γῆς, ὅτι Θεός ἐπί γῆς, κἄν ἄνθρωπος ἐν οὐρανοῖς· ἵνα ἀνθρώπους ἀγγέλοις συνάψας, ἅμα πάσῃ τῇ κτίσει τήν θέωσιν χαρίσηται.

ρ´. Συγχώρησις ἁμαρτιῶν, παθῶν ἐστιν ἐλευθερία, ὧν ὁ μήπω ἀπαλλαγείς χάριτι, τῆς συγχωρήσεως οὔπω ἔτυχεν.
ΕΚΑΤΟΝΤΑΣ Β´. Ἧς ἡ ἀκροστιχίς ἥδε Εὖξαι ὑπέρ ἐμοῦ ἀδελφέ τιμιώτατε, ὅτι μεγάλα κακά προσδοκῶ ἄξια τῆς ἐμῆς
προαιρέσεως, λύπας τῇ ψυχῇ, καί ὀδύνας τῷ σώματι. α´. Ἐθέλεις ὑφ᾿ ἕν τῶν κακιῶν ἀπαλλαγῆναι; τῇ μητρί τῶν κακῶν τῇ φιλαυτίᾳ
ἀποτάξαι. β´. Ὑγεία ψυχῆς, ἀπάθεια καί γνῶσις, ἧς τυχεῖν ἀμήχανον τόν ἡδοναῖς δουλεύοντα. γ´. Ξηραίνει τάς ἡδονάς τάς σωματικάς τε, καί ψυχικάς ἐγκράτεια μεθ᾿ ὑπομονῆς,
καί ἀγάπη μετά μακροθυμίας. δ´. Ἀρχή κακῶν τῇ ψυχῇ ἡ φιλαυτία γέγονεν· φιλαυτία δέ ἐστιν ἡ τοῦ σώματος
φιλία. ε´. Ἴδιον τοῦ λογικοῦ τό ὑποταγῆναι τῷ λόγῳ, καί τό ὑποπιάσαι, καί δουλαγωγῆσαι
τό σῶμα. στ´. Ὕβρις τῷ λογικῷ ὑποταγῆναι τῷ ἀλόγῳ, καί πρόνοιαν αὐτοῦ ποιεῖσθαι εἰς
ἐπιθυμίας αἰσχράς. ζ´. Πονηρόν ἔργον ψυχῆς λογικῆς, καταλιμπάνειν τόν Κτίσαντα, καί λατρεύειν τῷ
σώματι.
