56. The mind is shaken from the place of knowledge, because its passionate part is moved from its own virtues.
57. We received authority to become children of God; but we do not become so unless we strip off the passions.

59. The likeness in manner of life to the good or to the evil, makes men sons either of God or of Satan.

63. He who fears God, takes care of his own soul, and frees himself from evil fellowship.
64. It is impossible for one who forsakes Him and serves pleasures to obtain the mercy of God.
65. It is Jesus who says, even if we do not wish to believe, that no one is able to serve two masters.
66. A soul that has been defiled is hardened by the passions, and without cuttings and cauteries it does not endure to believe.
67. Terrible torments await the maimed; for without great labors they do not deign to be softened.
68. A prudent man takes care of himself; and through voluntary labors he escapes the involuntary ones.
69. The care of the soul is hardship and humility; through which God forgives all sins.
70. Just as desires and anger multiply sins; so self-control and humility wipe them out.

He has granted to men. 77. Repentance begets the keeping of the commandments; and the keeping of the commandments brings about the soul's
purification. 78. The purification of the soul is deliverance from the passions; and the deliverance from the passions,
begets the love of God.

νστ´. Σαλεύεται ὁ νοῦς ἐκ τοῦ τόπου τῆς γνώσεως, ὅτι τό παθητικόν αὐτοῦ κινηθῇ ἐκ τῶν ἰδίων ἀρετῶν.
νζ´. Ἐλάβομεν ἐξουσίαν τέκνα γενέσθαι Θεοῦ· οὐ γινόμεθα δέ εἰ μή τά πάθη ἀποδυσώμεθα.
νη´. Μηδείς οἰέσθω τέκνον Θεοῦ κατ' ἐνέργειαν γεγονέναι, μήπω τούς θείους χαρακτῆρας ἐν ἐαυτῷ κτησάμενος.
νθ´. Ἡ κατά τόν τρόπον ὁμοίωσις τοῦ ἀγαθοῦ, ἤ τοῦ πονηροῦ, ἤ τοῦ Θεοῦ υἱούς, ἤ τοῦ Σατανᾶ ἀπεργάζεται.
ξ´. Συνετός ἀνήρ ὁ προσέχων ἑαυτῷ, καί σπεύδων χωρισθῆναι ἀπό παντός μολυσμοῦ.
ξα´. Πεπωρωμένη ψυχή, μαστιζομένη οὐκ αἰσθάνεται, καί εἰς συναίσθησιν ἐλθεῖν τοῦ εὐεργέτου οὐκ ἀνέχεται.
ξβ´.Ῥυπαρά ἐσθής θείων γάμων ἐκβάλλεται, καί κοινωνόν ἀπεργάζεται σκότους ἐξωτέρου.
ξγ´. Ὁ φοβούμενονς τόν Θεόν, ἐπιμελεῖται τῆς ἑαυτοῦ ψυχῆς, καί πονηρᾶς κοινωνίας ἀπαλλάττει ἑαυτόν.
ξδ´. Ἀμήχανόν ἐστι τυχεῖν ἐλέους Θεοῦ τόν καταλείποντα αὐτόν, καί ἡδοναῖς δουλεύοντα.
ξε´. Ἰησοῦς ἐστιν ὁ λέγων, κἄν πιστεύειν οὐ θέλωμεν, ὅτι οὐδείς δύναται δυσί κυρίοις δουλεύειν.
ξστ´.Ῥυπωθεῖσα ψυχή, ἀπό παθῶν πεπώρωται, καί ἄνευ τομῶν καί καυτήρων πιστεύειν οὐκ ἀνέχεται.
ξζ´. Ἐτασμοί φοβεροί τούς πηρούς διαδέχονται· δίχα γάρ μεγάλων πόνων μαλαχθῆναι οὐ καταδέχονται.
ξη´. Συνετός ἀνήρ ἐπιμελεῖται ἑαυτοῦ· καί δι᾿ ἑκουσίων πόνων τούς ἀκουσίους ἐκφεύγει.
ξθ´. Ἐπιμέλεια ψυχῆς, κακοπάθεια καί ταπείνωσις· δι᾿ ὧν ὁ Θεός συγχωρεῖ πάσας ἁμαρτίας.
ο´. Ὥσπερ ἐπιθυμίαι καί ὀργαί ἁμαρτίας πληθύνουσιν· οὕτως ἡ ἐγκράτεια καί ταπείνωσις ἐξαλείφουσιν αὐτάς.
οα´. Συντρίβει καρδίαν λύπη κατά Θεόν· αὐτήν δέ τίκτει φόβος κολάσεως. οβ´. Λύπη κατά Θεόν καθαίρει καρδίαν· καί τούς μολυσμούς τῶν ἡδονῶν μακρύνει
ἀπ' αὐτῆς. ογ´. Ὑπομονή ἐστιν φιλοπονία ψυχῆς· ἔνθα δέ φιλοπονία, φιληδονία ἐξώρισται. οδ´. Πᾶσα ἁμαρτία διά τήν ἡδονήν γίνεται· καί πᾶσα συγχώρησις, διά τήν
κακοπάθειαν, καί λύπην. (1445) οε´. Ἀκουσίοις πόνοις κατά πρόνοιαν περιπίπτει, ὁ δι᾿ ἑκουσίων πόνων
μετανοεῖν μή ἀνεχόμενος. οστ´. Σωτήρ ἐστιν ὁ Χριστός τοῦ σύμπαντος κόσμου· καί τήν μετάνοιαν εἰς σωτηρίαν
τοῖς ἀνθρώποις ἐχαρίσατο. οζ´. Τήρησιν ἐντολῶν τίκτει μετάνοια· ἡ δέ τῶν ἐντολῶν τήρησις, ψυχῆς ποιεῖ τήν
κάθαρσιν. οη´. Ἡ τῆς ψυχῆς κάθαρσις, παθῶν ἐστιν ἀπαλλαγή· ἡ δέ τῶν παθῶν ἀπαλλαγή,
ἀγάπην τίκτει Θεοῦ.
