οβ´. Suffering and humility save a soul, and they deliver it from the aforementioned passions.
ογ´. The property of a prudent thought is a beneficial word, and of a good soul, a zealous action. οδ´. An enlightened mind brings forth wise words, and a pure soul thoughts
cultivates divine. οε´. The thoughts of a zealous man meditate on wisdom, and his words enlighten those
who hear. οστ´. When virtues are underlying in the soul, it cultivates good thoughts; but of evils
being underlying, it gives birth to wicked thoughts. οζ´. A workshop of wicked thoughts, is a passionate soul; and from its own treasure
it brings forth wicked things. οη´. The good treasure is the state of virtue, and the good mind from this
brings forth good things. οθ´. The mind, being moved by divine love, cultivates good thoughts about God; but by
self-love, the opposite. π´. The mind, being moved by love for the neighbor, unceasingly good things about him
thinks, and again from the opposite, it proposes wicked things. πα´. Virtues are the causes of good thoughts, and of virtues, the commandments; and of these
working, the choice. πβ´. Virtues and vices coming into being and passing away, well or ill the soul
dispose, moving it to thoughts against one another. πγ´. Vices are the causes of wicked thoughts, and of vices, disobedience, and of
disobedience, the deceit of the senses, and of deceit, the mind's carelessness about its security.
πδ´. In those who are progressing, the dispositions of the opposites become easily changeable. But in the perfect, in both cases, the states are hard to move.
πε´.The strength of the soul is a state of virtue that is hard to move, about which he who had attained it said: Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? and so forth.
πστ´. Self-love indeed precedes all the passions, but pride follows last of all.
πζ´. The three most general thoughts of desire have their birth from the passion of self-love.
πη´. Understand by all means the thoughts of gluttony and vainglory and love of money, which all the passionate thoughts follow, but not all in common.
πθ´. The thought of fornication follows the thought of gluttony, and that of pride follows that of vainglory; but the rest follow the three in common.

ἀκούοντας. οστ´. Ὑποκειμένων ἐν ψυχῇ ἀρετῶν, ἀγαθούς γεωργεῖ λογισμούς· κακιῶν δέ
ὑποκειμένων, φαύλας τίκτει ἐννοίας. οζ´. Πονηρῶν ἐννοιῶν ἐργαστήριον, ψυχή ἐμπαθής· καί ἐκ τοῦ ἑαυτῆς θησαυροῦ

ἐργασίας, ἡ προαίρεσις. πβ´. Αἱ ἀρεταί καί αἱ κακίαι γινόμεναι καί ἀπογινόμεναι, εὖ ἤ κακῶς τήν ψυχήν
διατιθέασι, κινοῦσαι εἰς ἐννοίας κατ᾿ ἀλλήλων. πγ´. Τῶν πονηρῶν ἐννοιῶν αἰτίαι αἱ κακίαι, τῶν δέ κακιῶν ἡ παρακοή, τῆς δέ
παρακοῆς ἡ τῆς αἰσθήσεως ἀπάτη, τῆς δέ ἀπάτης ἡ τοῦ νοῦ περί τήν ἀσφάλειαν αὐτῆς ἀμέλεια.
πδ´. Ἐν μέν τοῖς προκόπτουσιν εὐμετάπτωτοι γίνονται αἱ διαθέσεις τῶν ἐναντίων. Ἐν δέ τοῖς τελείοις κατ᾿ ἄμφω ἕξεις δυσκίνητοι.
πε´.Ῥώμη ψυχῆς ἐστιν ἕξις ἀρετῆς δυσκίνητος, εἰς ἥν ὁ φθάσας ἔλεγεν· Τίς ἡμᾶς χωρίσει ἀπό τῆς ἀγάπης τοῦ Χριστοῦ; καί τά ἐξῆς.
πστ´. Προηγεῖται μέν πάντων τῶν παθῶν ἡ φιλαυτία, ἕπεται δέ πάντων ἔσχατον ἡ ὑπερηφανία.
πζ´. Οἱ τρεῖς γενικώτατοι τῆς ἐπιθυμίας λογισμοί, ἐκ τοῦ πάθους τῆς φιλαυτίας τήν γέννησιν ἔχουσιν.
πη´. Νόει πάντως τούς τε τῆς γαστριμαργίας καί κενοδοξίας καί φιλαργυρίας λογισμούς, οἷς ἕπονται πάντες οἱ ἐμπαθεῖς λογισμοί, ἀλλ᾿ οὐ πάντες κοινῶς.
πθ´. Τῷ τῆς γαστριμαργίας λογισμῷ ἕπεται ὁ τῆς πορνείας, τῷ δέ τῆς κενοδοξίας ὁ τῆς ὑπερηφανίας· οἱ δέ λοιποί κοινῶς τοῖς τρισίν.
