HUNDRED IV. (1457) Of which the acrostic is this. Nevertheless, therefore, from both the principal evils, and those not properly so, but considered to be, pray
earnestly to our God, that we may be delivered. a. He who has separated his mind from friendship and flattery toward the flesh; this one by the
life-giving spirit has put to death the deeds of the body. b. Do not think you are separated from the relation to the flesh, while still among the flesh's
own things you have your mind occupied. c. Just as sensation and the objects of sense are proper to the flesh, so also to the soul are proper the
mind and its thoughts. d. Withdraw the soul from sensation and the objects of sense, and the mind is found
in God and in the intelligible realities. e. (1460) The intellectual natures are akin to the Godhead, and are apprehended by the mind alone; but sensation and
the objects of sense were created for the service of the mind. f. Let sensation and the objects of sense minister to you for spiritual contemplation, and
not conversely through sensation for the desire of the flesh. g. You were commanded to put to death the deeds of the body, so that the soul by pleasures
put to death, you might raise up by toils. h. Rule from God, and rule over sensation, and do not give authority, the
better to the worse. i. God is eternal, and infinite, and boundless, and eternal goods, and infinite, and
unspeakable has he promised to those who obey him. j. It is proper to the mind to dwell in God, and to think about him, and of his
providence, and of his awesome judgments.

ζωτικῷ πνεύματι τάς πράξεις τοῦ σώματος ἐθανάτωσεν β´. Μή νόμιζε κεχωρίσθαι τῆς πρός τήν σάρκα σχέσεως, ἔτι ἐν τοῖς τῆς σαρκός
οἰκείοις τόν νοῦν ἔχων ἀνασχολούμενον. γ´. Ὥσπερ τῆς σαρκός ἰδία ἡ αἴσθησις, καί τά αἰσθητά, οὕτω καί τῆς ψυχῆς ἴδια ὁ
νοῦς καί τά νοήματα. δ´. Σύστειλον τήν ψυχήν ἐκ τῆς αἰσθήσεως καί τῶν αἰσθητῶν, καί εὑρίσκεται ὁ νοῦς
ἐν τῷ Θεῷ καί ἐν τοῖς νοητοῖς. ε´. (1460) Οἰκεῖον θεότητος αἱ νοεραί φύσεις, καί νῷ μόνῳ ληπταί· ἡ δέ αἴσθησις καί
τά αἰσθητά εἰς ὑπουργίαν τοῦ νοῦ ἐκτίσθη. στ´. Ὑπουργείτω σοι ἡ αἴσθησις καί τά αἰσθητά, πρός θεωρίαν τήν πνευματικήν, καί
μή σοι ἀντιστρόφως τῇ αἰσθήσει τά πρός ἐπιθυμίαν τῆς σαρκός. ζ´. Νεκρῶσαι ἐκελεύσθης τάς πράξεις τοῦ σώματος, ἵνα τήν ψυχήν ἡδοναῖς
νεκρωθεῖσαν τοῖς πόνοις ἐξαναστήσης. η´. Κυριεύου ἀπό Θεοῦ, καί κυρίευε τῆς αἰσθήσεως, καί μή δός τήν ἐξουσίαν ὁ
κρείττων τῷ χείρονι. θ´. Ἀΐδιος Θεός, καί ἀπέραντος, καί ἀόριστος, καί ἀΐδια ἀγαθά, καί ἀπέραντα, καί
